Addons and Steam Workshop: addon devs, I need your help

#1 Post by darkgod »

Hello!

As you surely know tome has been greenlit and I'm working hard to bring it out ASAP.
I've added integration with Steam Workshop (the place where they have mods/addons/... for all steam games).
It's very simple really, next release will have a special dev addon which you can invoke ingame which will register an addon on te4.org, create the .teaa file, md5'sum it, and even upload it to te4.org; all that at the press of a button !
And when using the steam version it'll also just as easily let you upload to the Workshop.

I want the game to launch on steam with the workshop open, however to do that there must already be a good amount of content available; so I need addon makers to upload them in advance (and no I cant do it for you, cant usurp your identities :) )

So how this works:
- you need a linux or windows computer (sorry no OSX steam for now as I cant get hold of neunon :/ ) with Steam and a steam account
- I'll give you a free steam key
- You use the key to access the beta, then you link your steam account to te4.org
- You start the game, press a few buttons for each addon
- You go admire your work on the Workshop (and possibly upload a better "preview" iamge than the autogenerated one ;) )

All addon makers are welcome, be they making classes, races or quality of life addons!

Okay I'll do it.
But I don't have anything to use for preview images...

Make OS/X work and I'll give it a try.

My Steam ID is also "doctornull".
Check out my addons: Nullpack (classes), Null Tweaks (items & talents), and New Gems fork.

My steam name is StarKeep, and I'm up for trying it. (didn't post here before, as I wasnt' sure if I should message you instead, this having no responses)
Though this 'preview image', if it's as important as I fear, must take hours of dedication to create.

Would a terribly cropped snapshot work, if I added in a couple of explosions and ice cream cones?

I'll do this once I get Stoics fixed up for 1.0.5. Just need to finish one of the new talent trees and tweak a few things.

GIve me a moment on this one; I suspect getting Steam actually installed and running on this box is likely to be a minor adventure in and of itself... :? In the meantime, perhaps the Steam regulars could give me an idea of what I'm getting into here?

Steam's a browser based system, so it's extremely easy to navigate. You'll have to trouble. As to Workshop, it provides a simple way to find and download mods, which are then kept automatically updated.

Looks like the preview image is set when the addon is published to steam from t-engine (can't be changed from the workshop).

It can be changed, you have to upload a new image first though.

This lets me add other screenshots and a youtube video in the addon details, but does not let me change the thumbnail/preview picture that would be seen in a large list of addons.

Add a new image, then you can change the preview image to the new one.

New steam build is up, it should warn you about tags and let you upload a custom preview.
Go on, upload now! :)
