Offline Questions

#1 Post by PYRODREW »

I read the FAQ and searched, but couldn't find anything regarding the below.

Is there a way to install ToME to a computer that is never connected to the internet? A zip or rar file with the game perhaps?

Is offline LAN multiplay possible?

Thanks in advance.

Yeah, just download to a USB stick and transfer it over. You won't have access to online profiles and in-game chat, but the game is otherwise completely unaffected.

You also won't have access to Stone Warden, assuming you donated enough to get that access.
Check out my addons: Nullpack (classes), Null Tweaks (items & talents), and New Gems fork.

Also, "Offline LAN multiplay" is a definite no-go. Mostly because there's no multiplayer, period. LAN, online, whatever.

I downloaded installer 1.0.5 from the main website, which gave me the t-engine.exe and t-engine-launcher.exe for ToME. The launcher added additional files into that download folder. I copied all these and moved them over to the offline computer that has Windows XP. t-engine-launcher.exe says "Error: Couldn't resolve host name" and using t-engine.exe puts up an empty window and just hangs.

ToME requirements say I need:

OpenGL
SDL
SDL_image
SDL_ttf
SDL_mixer

I assume those are included in the launcher? It also says I need the following tools:

a C compiler (like GNU GCC or mingw for windows)
premake4

Which I found and downloaded, but I am not sure what exactly to do next. Online installation worked with ease without needing to find/download anything except the main 1.0.5 install.

Suggestions?

You need to install the ENTIRE game on a computer which has internet connection in case of such stuff, and then once it is installed and works, you can copy the entire game folder onto a stick and onto a computer without Internet. I tried. It works. You just need to make sure it works before copying over.

Yes, I copied everything both times, but I got it to work the 2nd time because:

1. It must be copied from the same operating system. My download on Vista doesn't work when copied over to WindowsXP.

2. When asked between open or save the zip file, you must *save* the zip file to your preferred location. Otherwise, the shortcut claims it's in the temporary internet files in a folder that doesn't exist, even with "show hidden folders" on... thus making it impossible to copy it to another computer. I found other files in the main Windows folder and a ToME folder as well when searching for t-engine.

3. They didn't make this easy. :P

Have you tried running the actual game, rather than the launcher which checks the internet for updates?

I did both, but as mentioned I did get it to work only by doing the above points I made.

Strange. Could be a fault with the downloader or maybe Vista.

Vista makes it very hard to find downloaded files, as PYRODREW pointed out. So I guess it's the system which is to blame.
