Lich in jeopardy! game-breaking bug?

#1 Post by MalReynolds »

My beloved Necro+ better-dumb-ai Lich is stuck on lvl5 of High Peak.

He got summoned to Fearscape by a rare. He pulled his beloved undead friends along with him using Shadow Tunnel. When he went back, there was an additional copy of himself. Over the next couple of turns, there were a few extra copies.

One has sat his a$$ on the up-stairs.

The duplicate me's have a strange property: the tactical cursor cannot move onto them. If I move the cursor down to a mini-me, the cursor jumps back to the real me. If I try to push into one, I just stop as if against a wall.

If I cast Chill of the Tomb next to one (because I can't directly target it--see tactical cursor problem above), I damage *myself*, and all the versions of me on the screen get a meatshield. I don't burning hex myself, because that wouldn't even affect the real me.

The minions shown aren't mine; they're the old me's, and don't do anything.

I assume there is no easy way to fix this. So I wanted to (a) list the bug and (b) ask, how can I use debug mode to put an additional up-stair somewhere my mini-me isn't sitting?

Grrr.

Any thoughts on this?

I assume that it is too late to solve the problem with respect to the duplicate dingleberries. But is it possible to add an up-stair somewhere using debug, and how would I do that?

Until that happens, my lvl50 near-guaranteed-to-win necromancer is cooling his heels on lvl5 of High Peak, sipping on Ent's Potions.

Debug mode invalidates your online progress tracking.

If you could somehow get to another level, fearscape perhaps, you could delete the level file and hope it gets regenerated.
I did that once when Reknor 2 spawned without a down stairs.

When truly desperate maybe try replacing the level file by one of another character. But I don't know much on how to help you.

Re: Lich in jeopardy! bad bug? (getting off bugged level)

So, I hunted and pecked, and found semi-solution below for cheat-mode and getting off the level, and things seemed to be fine again.

(Although the game crashed again a bit later; but this is not unusual: I get crashes about once every couple of zones. The game is, I think, noticeably less stable than when I last played it extensively, six months ago.)

Typical cheat solution: See e.g. the wiki article on Debugging. http://te4.org/wiki/Debugging
go to C:\Documents and Settings\Eric\T-Engine\4.0\settings, or your mac Library Application Support folder (you may have to run this from a terminal to make your library folder appear on Mac: chflags nohidden ~/Library/)
Create a file called cheat.cfg in 4.0/settings, and put the single line cheat = true inside it.
Restart the game; you'll be disabled from online mode because of cheating.
Type [C]-L, control L. You may have to manually bind this yourself by hitting ESC and then adding a keystroke for the Lua console.
Type this command:

Code: Select all

game:changeLevel(6,"high-peak")
or whatever level of whatever zone you want to go to. This will get you off the level you are stuck on because of the bug, but you'll no longer be counted as a winner online.

The above debug trick worked fine: my duplicate dingleberries were left on the previous floor.

Went to The Sanctum, stomped on the two sorcerers.

Then went to try out the Gigantic Goofy Golem, offering him his eye back, and he stomped on me without even breaking a mechanical sweat. I still have never beaten him.
