Re: Dumb questions thread
1) Not sure, though the higher level of the block talent scales a bit more, I think?
2) No. They only block damage when you use the talent.
3) It will (IIRC, I don't run shield classes often) block the first hit from multiple enemies, if you are surrounded by multiple enemies, but I don't know about multiple hits from the same enemy.
4) Knowing when enemies will get an extra turn isn't possible short of seeing there speed, and following it for several turns to figure out that 'hey, he's moving 1 extra tile each 5 turns', or 'every 6 turns he doesn't move', or other patterns you notice. There is no magic way to tell. Beyond that, I thought that shields would counterstrike enemies that attacked at range as well, if you can block whatever they throw. (Typically arrows, but with the right elemental shield, or spectral shield, I thought you could block magic if it was weak enough compared to your shield.)
Again, I don't play shield classes much, so maybe someone else can answer/confirm what I've said.

Thank you, Crim!
Re: Dumb questions thread
Are there some tricks I'm missing to improve the interface? I downloaded TE4 on my MacBook Pro Retina, but I'm surprised by how much harder it is to play than a 20 year old ASCII game. I can only see a small area at a time. The minimap is almost impossible to read. Just keeping track of where I've been or haven't been, is hard. Are there some settings I should be looking for?

Re: Dumb questions thread
Crim got most of these, just gonna add a few notes of my own.
I'd forgotten about this trick. I'm going to try this with some Skeleton Master Archers right now.
Technically a tiny bit, since they usually add at least +2 armor, and armor does passively block damage... but it's usually not much.Sandman25 wrote:2) Do shields block any damage if I don't activate Block talent?
I've seen the Counterattack status on several enemies due to a single Block action, but I haven't read the log to see if it blocked multiple attacks from a single enemy... check your game's message log, you should be able to figure this out. If not, I'll try later tonight.Sandman25 wrote:3) Does shield block first attack only or several attacks during a single turn?
Sometimes as a spellcaster I get the Counterattack status on myself from casting a spell on a monster who is Blocking. That might be what's happening here: the monster used a ranged attack when you blocked, so now you can kick its butt by using Rush or whatever.Sandman25 wrote:4) Sometimes I use block when an enemy is one hex away and still get Counterattack status on it. I guess it happens because the monster has 110+ movement speed and happened to move and attack me during 1 turn.

Re: Dumb questions thread
DaviddesJ, take a look at http://forums.te4.org/viewtopic.php?f=3 ... &start=105, the "Call for screenshots" thread, also in General Discussion. There are lots of different ways the interface could look, but your window should be at least similar to these. From the settings menu, you can change resolution, etc, if you need to, however some people have had issues at different resolutions in the past.
Also, there is an "autoexplore" button ("z" by default) that automatically takes you to the closest square you haven't visited yet. It continues exploring until an enemy is sighted or damage is taken, and picks up items as you go. Very useful for exploring a level.

Thank you Doctornull!
I was lucky to find a shield with Block 5 property before Dreadfell (I like opening chests) and it looks like the property determines number of turns for Counterstrike status. I've seen it giving "Counterstrike 3" status to enemy, that never happened with Block 1 shield.

Re: Dumb questions thread
Question: How exactly does invisibility work? I know it works somewhat like stealth, where enemies might not notice you, but what about enemies attacking you? I've noticed it's very difficult for my characters to hit an invisible enemy, obviously, but is this a large buff to defense, or an evasion-like effect, or what?
Re: Dumb questions thread
There's an evasion-like effect on both Stealth and Invisibility.
IIRC, it's a flat rate 50% chance to miss the target with physical attacks as long as they're under the effects of either.

Re: Dumb questions thread
Thanks! So invisibility power and stealth power have no effect on that miss chance. Bummer.
EDIT: Does it work in conjunction with Evasion?

Re: Dumb questions thread
Whenever you attack in melee, the game makes an extra check to make sure you can see the target. If you can't, you only have 1/3 the normal chance to hit, which includes all the normal checks of attack vs. defense and evasion.
When you are attacked, the power of your invisibility or stealth does not affect this 1/3 factor, but it does make it more likely that the factor comes into play.

Re: Dumb questions thread
My Cursed is exploring readfell, and I noticed some treasure chambers that appear inaccessible. Using a digging tool on the walls has no effect; and these walls have the "not teleportable" property, so I assume the treasure chambers themselves have that property as well. (I certainly had no luck trying my teleportation rune.) Is there a way to enter these?
Re: Dumb questions thread
Different question: how do you dual wield? One of my talents gives a defence bonus when I'm dual wielding, but dragging a one-handed weapon to my shield slot doesn't have the intended effect ... how do you equip two weapons?

Re: Dumb questions thread
The so called 'treasure rooms' are vaults, and the no teleport is a certain indication of that. Somewhere there's a door to those places, and it'll prompt you with a warning when you try to open it. (sometimes the door is buried behind a diggable wall.) Vaults however, are very dangerous, especially dreadfell vaults. Level 35+ greater demons are not at all impossible.
As for dual wielding, only reavers can dual wield fullsized weapons. Other classes can only offhand 'light' weapons. These are daggers, mindstars, and MAYBE whips. (Can't recall if they qualify or not.)

Re: Dumb questions thread
Whips qualify.
There's also a specific class that can dualwield shields(though currently, it's a donation bonus only).

Question: Is there any way to unlock a generic tree/get a generic unlocked tree for an alchemist's golem?
