Headless horror...you've got to be kidding me...

#1 Post by onyhow »

Grushnak Pride floor 1, vault (or something to that effect...)...met Headless horror...Resists: 100% physical, 90% all, 100% cold, 100% nature...damn it...is this supposed to be a marathon boss or something? And it's only elite...
Why can't TOME 4 has a secret room where you can represent game bugs as, well, enemies you can crush like in Divine Divinity? That would be cool...

Didn't see any...I was staying behind a corner in a single hallway, so...

Anyway, I did kill it by spam Searing Light, Sun Flare, and hit it with my weapon (has 19 blight, 25 darkness, 22 poison) + Weapon of Light to death...took a long while...

I'm supposed to kill this eye thing to reduce its resistance?

They don't come with eyes when generated in a vault. Something to do with monsters being overwritten, I gather.

I met a headless horror right now in Daikara.
Ofcourse right when I thought this escort task was done.
Only a few more enemies on the right side of me and the escort in a corridor.
-: Huh, whats that? I do not recall this monster.
-: Huh, oh. A headless horror.

I riffle through my backpack and LO and BEHOLD, no less than 2 wands of fire. :)

-:" Here you have Mr Headless!"
*ZAP*
Oh, oh. 15hp.
And I have 12 shots which means 180hp.
And he has.....
Oh, uh 976hp.

I check my daggers.
Oh, uh, I sold off the elemental daggers and kept massacre and ruin.

I check my equipment.
Well, yes, I have dragged this spider robe which does poison damage! :)
So I hit him with poison.
4 at the turn.
Alas, even if I hit him, he is not poisoned every move.
After several tried I flurry in despair, and he counters with HEALING!!!

Guess this encounter wasnt winable at this stage of the game. :(

Now that I think of it, and looking at your question,
Yes, he had some eyes with him that I killed.
Did not notice any change.

Clearly not in the same category as this unique with the tentacles that I met somewhere I now forgot.

I just found a Headless Horror in the air-filled floor under Lake Nur.

It came at me along a hallway, with no eyes in sight. I escaped and tunneled into the room past the hallway, and killed one eye, which brought it down to 60% resist all (... but still 100% resist physical, and it kept mana-draining me so spells were less useful than usual.)

I put on all my damage-on-hit items and grinded it away.

In that situation, the best thing to do is probably to just teleport away and come back from a different direction in hopes of encountering one of its eyes.

I've seen eyes in vaults before. I think if the vaults are so packed with monsters that there's no room to generate the eyes, the horror might not get any eyes. It'd also happen if for some reason the horror was explicitly generate without any escorts.

Those headless horrors and the floating eyes can be found sometime in the "alternate" version of Maze, and at the level you usually are when doing Maze, they're insanely difficult to survive if you try to fight instead of running toward the nearby hole on the floor.

Maybe the bug was fixed during the 2.5 years since Grey's post.

That's what I did, but the Headless Horror back-tracked and found me after I'd dispatched only one eye. That was enough to make it technically killable, but it was still a slog.

As the thread's necromancer, I ought to take responsibility for not flagging my blatant arcane disregard for the cycle of nature.
