Lua error with Pulverizing Auger in alt Old Forest

Using Pulverizing Auger on the crystal walls in the alternate old forest consistently gives a lua error (and fails to remove the wall). Digging with a pickaxe gives no such error, but does not remove the wall. The walls are marked as diggable.

Edit: in the Scintillating Cave, there is no lua error and crystal walls can be dug.

I had a similar Lua error (already reported in-game) that occurred repeatedly during a fight with the alternate boss. He kept knocking me into the crystal wall, then the error popped up. At that time I didn't know the game well enough to investigate further, but I suspect that he was using some skill that was supposed to smash the wall he knocked me into.
