Unacquireable achievement.

#1 Post by Crim, The Red Thunder »

'Burnt to the Ground' listed on the wiki doesn't function properly, it is unobtainable with either the Staff, or the Awakened staff. (I tried both.) The apprentice mage is not willing to accept it. Either fix the mage, or add the arcane flag to it. Ticked about this.

It's because he used to accept staves instead of arcane artifacts, IIRC.

It's not a hard tweak to make though. Just add an arcane flag to the staff, or an exception for that staff. Lord knows it has enough frigging magical power that it HAS to be of interest to Angolwen somehow, even if only to 'protect' it.

Is there some reason it SHOULDN'T be able to do this?

Unless I'm mistaken, in principle you could wield the awakened staff with an antimagic char to read the Sher'Tul runes in the fortress. If it was arcane you wouldn't. I don't think this is a problem in practice, since wielding the awakened staff takes 60 magic and getting that on an antimagic dude is difficult at best, but there you go.

It's Unknown Forces because it's a Shur'Tul artifact. This will not likely change. I would say if anything, a special case should be added to the NPC.

That would be more then enough. Just make this achievement acquireable again.

It needs to be a special case. I need to show that guy exactly what I think of his "lightly ego'd ring for artifact" offer when I'm an Archmage.

Done. Yay Darkgod!

Maybe someone knows... If I hang onto this character, will I be able to import to next version and claim the achievement, or will I need to start a new character to get the updated mage/staff/quest?

It looks like it will work at any time after the change is implemented.

Can somebody tell me what happened when you give the staff to the 'apprentice?' I have achieved this, don't get me wrong, it's just that red text popped up in the log and I was too busy looking at the pretty achievement to read what it said. When I pressed 'H' to open the history thing, it wasn't there.

And I'm very curious.

I know that, I just want to know what the description of the event was.

Call me morbidly curious.

As you wish:
As the apprentice touches the staff he begins to scream, flames bursting out of his mouth. Life seems to be drained away from him, and in an instant he collapses in a lifeless husk.
And then he explodes. Yeah, that's what I think of you and your artifact-for-crappy-ring exchange program!
