[git] Massive slowdown in Dreadfell

#1 Post by MisiuPysiu »

Hi,

Im experiencing a massive slowdown in the dreadfell area. Up to 1 frame/second, where previously, using the old libraries i had 20-30 frames/sec.
We had some similar problems back when the betas were in the 20s range. Now the problem is back:(

edit: It gets only a bit better after I restarted the game.

Cheers.

I had this happen when I was on a floor with a fire floor type vault. I suspected it was due to an add-on I was using. Did you have any vaults on the level? For me, it went away when I changed floors and restarted tome.

Well, its hard to tell. Its my first play-through with the new libraries. I remember some time ago a similar performance problem occurred. At that time, the old libraries had to be used and the performance was good again.
At the moment I'm sitting with my solipsist in the fortress and having 2-4 frames/second.
After restarting the game, the problem persists.
After restarting the computer, the problem persists.

So right now, I'm having a fresh game on a fresh restarted computer, only the save is older (the char is level 43). The game is hardly playable.
On a different save, a lev 16 character the problem is noticeable but surely not so severe.

Cheers.

As the zipped saves are quite big, here are the links:

The 44 lev solipsist:

The 16 lev solipsist:

Played on the latest git, without addons. Sources compiled thanks to johnnyzero.

if I teleport to dreadfell with your lvl 44 one, I go to every floor but dont notice any lag.
For you it lags even without mobs as in t he savefile ?

Johnny can you try that on windows ?

Jup,

Im lagging in the fortress, where the save is made. After pressing autoexplore, i get 2 frames/second. I just checked dreadfell - the same behavior. My computer is quite up to date and this slowdown is noticeable only after changing the zlib libraries (and all other).

Cheers.

Can you go back in git up toe before the savefile changes and use the old exe of 1.0.4 with it, load your lvl44 savefile and see if it is really faster ?

Ok,

I've run the save with an older version of tome (to be precise, i used the original 1.04 version. I tried also some older git version with the older libraries and binaries). In all versions, the save has some serious lag, with no real difference which version I'm using.
The main performance difference is between this save and a new fresh one. There, the lag and performace issues are nonexisting.
I will see how does this problem evolve using different characters but it seams, with more time spend on a save, the lag becomes bigger and bigger.

Cheers.

But you're saying it's not new to git but was also in 104 then ?

Yes,
apparently the problem existed before. But i never noticed it. Maybe the save file is somehow inflated in the new version and this causes the slowdown. I dont know:/

Maybe the problem is connected to the number of resources i have. Its 7 different resources all the time:
Life,
shield,
Mana
Equi,
Psi,
Feedback
Ammo

Together with 9 sustains... Maybe this is causing the slowdown. I'm just wondering course it never happend before and I played a few solipsist before.
I will check it with a different class.

Cheers.

Hum, when you simply look at the screen without moving or doing anything, what's your CPU usage ?

Its 11% and 200.000 KB RAM usage while doing nothing. The game runs smooth also (menus and stuff)
During autoexplore caps at 24 - 25%.
I don't know if tome support multi threating:)

Cheers.
