After the fourth or fifth time in a row that I've happened to bump into hostile adventurers, maybe the game ought to recognize that it's not an unfortunate accident.

Also, it would be nice to sometimes be the one setting up an ambush rather than always being the one feigning obliviousness until it's time to kill all the bandits, and sell their stuff.

BTW, the gear is exactly why I've been doing this -- it's a decent haul for a fairly quick fight, and I needed cash to pay for my education at Mindblade College.

After about 10 ambushes each with a Summoner, then a Time Warden, and then a staff-focused Reaver, one of them finally cost me a life. It was a 3-man ambush, and after I killed the Sun Paladin, the team's Alchemist and Corruptor did me in. (Or maybe it was a Reaver, but it had a staff, so I dunno.) Mostly I blame the Alchemist's golem, who got in my line of fire once too often.

I guess an ambush can be dangerous.

Also, I noticed that the Apprentice Mage kills antagonistic adventuring parties who bump into him. So if you find them troublesome, don't unlock the Archmage city.

Yeah, ambushes are easy until you run into one that isn't. And then you're dead...

It seemed like the ambush antagonists scaled with my character.

Is there a time in the game which is safer to clean them up?

They do, and no. Depending on your build, there may be a time in the game where you are particularly strong compared to your level, and the later it gets the more options there are, which helps you over the AI, but there's always the danger of getting a nasty combo.

One death out of ~30 fights is ... uh ... better than my batting average for dungeon bosses. (Counting Bill the secret troll as the boss of the Trollmire, I never die to Prox.)
