[1.0.1] Maelstrom takes two turns to apply
When you cast maelstrom, critters in its zone are not distorted till the following turn. So if you cast maelstrom and then distortion bolt, no bonus radial damage occurs.

This is probably not a bug, it's just timing issues. Maelstrom sets an area effect that does something at the end of every game turn, and if you have a speed boost (from Clarity, for example) you can cast Maelstrom and then get another action before the game turn ticks over.

Bug or not, IMO maelstorm AoE distortion should always occur immediately. Distortion talents are already weak; rest of them are either short-ranged or not instantly acting (Distortion Wave acts immediately, but who would possibly want to increase the radius to push enemy out of Mind Sear range?); solipsists are FAST. If there is no guranteed way to strike a combo, why bother with tree at all?
