Missing Brood Mother and Paladin

I'm running a solid wyrmic and have two odd bugs:

The paladin is missing in gates of morning and there was no orc mother at the bottom of the breeding pits. (The latter may be because there was no place to spawn her; the level was filled with mobs.) I did have a crash in gates of morning that required me to erase the town to access the shops, but she appeared just fine in there after. Now she is gone. I've already re-opened the portal and am afraid that I will zap it if I remove the town file again. Is it OK? Is there some other way to bring her back?
