Im thinking this should become a race/class really. Every time I play this thing I picture myself as some kind of horror or creature from the void that looks like the mouth, or something with just a huge gaping maw, devouring everything it comes across.

Then I look at my little dude and remember "Oh yeah, im a human that somehow just ate a giant in one gulp".

And for added challenge / scaling things back, you could restrict the equipment since most of this characters power comes from what they consume, not what they wear. You could completely restrict all inventory slots except maybe a handful like telekinetic weapons when learned, cloaks since you could just drape it around yourself, and maybe a light source or a tool.

Definitely love the feel to it though. Its like adventurer, only the opposite. Instead of being restricted in your talent choices by what you picked, you are restricted by what you come across and manage to eat.

Something like this sucker:

I agree
[tome] joylove: You can't just release an expansion like one would release a Kraken XD

Hmmmmm.... perhaps with a special class-based area that explains how you used to be a human/elf/halfling/whatever before you became this horror with your affliction? (Much like the cursed tranquil meadow giving a backstory to the cursed class?)

Edit: Plus, if we get a betentacled horror like that, I can finally name a character Chode McBlob. +1 for this!

And you could even do it undead-style and need to carry a special trinket (tool slot) that does the same effect as cloak of deception.

By default, everything wants you dead because you know, you look like Shub Niggurath. So you get this trinket at the end of your start area, and of course you can make the fortress make the illusion permanent.

I know, I know, big thinking for this early on. Got to get the base mechanics hammered out before all these cool additions. Just brainstorming though!

But then again I would like running around having everything tremble in fear of my horrible horrorness.
At least for a little bit.

Maybe make the illusion harder to get, like a level 10 unlocked quest? That way you can feel the pressures of being a horror that has come to maj'eyal for a little bit, and as you become stronger and master the world you can adapt and hide your form.

Make it near the Deep Bellow. Greatly resembles the Mouth in quite a few ways.

But Deep Bellow is dwarf only. And we don't want to necessarily lock our glutton into being a dwarf before a horror. For that matter, we aren't yet certain that we ARE horrors, rather then those just afflicted with dark powers.

I learned at least in 0.0.4, if you get Telekinetic Grasp (the skill that lets Mindslayers use Gems and weapons), you cannot actually equip anything there.

To be honest I don't know if this is a bug or not.

Really? In 0.0.4 I learned Telekinetic Smash from a rare that I ate which also taught me telekinetic grasp and beyond the flesh. All 3 of them worked as expected. You have to actually use the talent to equip something to that slot, I dont think you can drag / drop into it.

I was kickin serious ass with it, probably too much. I had to turn it off because my floating weapon killed things before I could eat them.

I think we might need a way to kill a talent, actually. Like unlearn out in Gabor of maybe a resource Regen? The resource obviously decays again, but that way i can drop either the shield talents or the two hander talents. Lets you focus the build a bit. Otherwise, while i haven't gotten there, your talent panel is gonna be absurd to pick through

One way of balancing the class might be to limit the total number of talents you can have at any one time, allowing unlearning to get more. Maybe the equivalent of the total number of talent points other classes would have, minus something to compensate for the fact that you can come up with stupidly overpowered combinations?

Fix'd, in bold.

I'm not averse to this idea actually, and it is another way to provide balance, but I rather like diminishing returns better myself. Are you talking limiting total NUMBER of talents, or total combined LEVEL of talents? For instance, am I limited to 25 talents, or 100 levels of talents, spread as thick or thin as I want?

I like the diminishing returns the best I think. Like the example earlier where you need to eat a talent 50 times to rank it up another level, unless its something really awesome or you really love, its more tedious than anything else. Which is good, if you REALLY want that point you need to work for it, if not, just forget about it.

Addendum to previous suggestion: maybe you can eat unlimited talents, but only X talents can be active at any given time, and picking new active talents has a cooldown to prevent spamming it in battle?

I found out what happened with my problem: I got ONLY telekinetic grasp, not beyond the flesh or anything else. When I got another mindslayer talent, it gave me beyond the flesh and the other talent (kinetic leech, i think).
