So.. additional races except Orcs? Trolls? Giants? Different breeds? Compared to the main campaign I foresee some diversity problems.

..Then again, if the only option is exacting vengeance upon the "civilized" world using the power of TECHNOLOGY I could live with it. S'cool.

There's two more flavors of undead that could be used... :)

I'd kinda like to see there be subtypes of Orc based on the various clan types, too. Maybe you could start with a standard Kruk Orc and unlock remnants from the other Prides, with different racial skills and stat tendencies.

Having Trolls or Minotaurs in the orc campaign sounds like a good idea.
I do agree it could probably use some race variety, also it seems like the regular undead races could work(Orc Ghoul or something).

Undead Campaign, Troll Campaign, good god, ever heard the expression walk before you run? All these ideas bouncing aruond in your head flying back and forth, even the Doctor couldn't come up with some of this...

Can't wait to see more of those too! Keep up the good work! 8)

I just hope we can get some original concepts here. The Orcs and their "horde" are really the good guys. Orcs were enslaved, trolls were persecuted and thought of as bumbling idiots, Minotaurs who knows, undead are misunderstood. This is starting to sound a lot like a game set in a World thats main profession is Crafting War.

Why do the orcs/trolls/undead/tauren er I mean minotaurs have to be "friends"? Guess we just need the naga's to take the place of "blood elves".

Spiderkin and fearscape, those were original ideas. I liked those.

Having "Race" selection for orc campaign broken apart by tribe makes sense because all those prides were vastly different in specialization. But having a race outside orc to play would be nice as well, I just hope its not Troll Pirates (Everquest) or Minotaurs (WoW Tauren).

Steampunk orcs in a war against giants isn't original?

nothing involving steampunk is original. that ship has sailed. do shippunk instead, with superfluous mastheads everywhere and machines powered by sails

the steampunk war against steam giants is, I'm just speaking on the proposed race lineup, and mostly on the relations on why these guys are together and how the "pretty races" are really the aggressors.

I personally would rather see an Eberron style with the machines though. Steampunk is common, machines powered by magic + steam not so common.

L. E. Modesitt Jr. says 'Hi'.
(For those who haven't read those books, decent blend of magic and technology, and interesting take on the differences between good and evil.)

Also on the subject of non-original ideas, "Truly, There is nothing new under the sun."
The fantasy genre has been around so long now, that a lot of stuff truly HAS been done. Trolls, minotaurs/tauren, orcs... These are all stereotyped cliches used in dozens and dozens of places. It's VERY difficult to come up with truly completely unique and original ideas anymore, since so much has already been done. This is made more complicated by the fact that we are all influenced by the things we see/read/watch/do. It may be unintentional, but if we've read a lot of fantasy with minotaurs, some of what we have read will influence (subconciously) our image of minotaurs. So, when created in game, even if unintentional, bits of what we have read/watched/seen/etc will be reflected in the created minotaurs.

It's not like "Humans, elves, and halflings team up to travel across the world and defeat an unknown ancient threat and their horde of orcs" sounds like the most original plot, but look at how things turn out. ToME's orcs are already pretty far removed from Tolkien's, and I think they'll make great protagonists.
Sorry about all the parentheses (sometimes I like to clarify things).

Driders. Fearscape is just a "Battle at the Center of the Mind" with fire instead of mind stuff.

If you go around looking for correlations or new ways of telling old tales and looking down on them, all of fiction will be a vast disappointment. The key is how all the stories are different. Without some basis for us to relate to what we see, the subject matter fails to connect to us at all.

One could very well write a sprawling epic about the trials of a mute but self-aware shade of the color purple as it spends 3 million years flying alone through space. It's never been done, that I know of, but that doesn't make it interesting.

The point is nobody is the good guys really, they all have wants and desires and their fair share of bad history.

And yes fantasy, or really any story, is bound to be somehow similar to some other. You can use "classic" races the way they are usually, but then you fall in a trope, you can go against it but then it's a trope too, you can go sideways and this is again a trope.
What matters is that it makes a coherent and nice story.

And I dont see where you saw that orcs and trolls are friend, or nagas for that matter. The Dominion is trying to encroach on var'eyal, which pleases the sunwall not but neither does it pleases the orcs. At all.
