Forthcoming Solipsist Nerfing: Life After Mind Sear

#1 Post by fireflutterpony »

So, solipsists are getting nerfed shortly. This is ... only to be expected, as they are stupidly good. I managed to clear the game with one, so they must be overpowered.

One part of the changes that are coming which sort of worries me, though, are the likely changes to Mind Sear. At the moment, it's the only basic nuke Solipsists get. Distortion Bolt is ridiculously weak without other talent investment - so the only likely effect of cutting Mind Sear down to size is making Psychic Assault AND Distortion compulsory trees.

So I was thinking - the main annoying thing about Dream Smith is that all the cooldowns are so long. And that you don't get to USE that nifty Dream Hammer unless you have a skill off cooldown, which means it's Hammer Time only two game turns out of every six, roughly.

So why not make the first skill a sustain instead? While you have it up, your melee attack is replaced by the Dream Hammer. Give it a reduced chance to finish cooldowns on the other Dream Hammer skills, to make up for being on all the time.

It makes Dream Hammer a full-fledged melee option for Solipsists, and gives them effectively three trees to pick from for core damage-dealing, so solipsists can just grab two out of three and be good to go.

I personally prefer Dream Smith as is, it makes the playstyle more interesting and doesn't mostly obsolete psiblades the way Gestures does. Figuring out how to maximize the number of hammer attacks is part of why I enjoy the tree a lot.

One thing I'd like to see from Dream Smith is better synergy with Thoughtforms. They don't benefit if you're stacking physical damage boosts, and tend to walk into flying hammers.
