I noticed in nearly every games i played that i have been using only items that gives me more resistance.
As in ToME4 you constantly take damage of many kind of elements, i found myself hunting for the best +res items and always transmogrifying those +stats items that gives no resistance bonus.
This way i have high resistances to survive.
Sure the best items are the one that gives you both +stats and +res, but those are very rare.
So i'm wondering, am i overlooking something ?
Is it really a viable option then to use those +stats items
I can't see how, as you take so much elemental damage from every side, that with an item slot took by one not giving any +res bonus (and so your resistances will be lower) i have difficulty to imagine how your health would not be destroyed in a few turns ?

Here's the thing: There are so many types of damage coming your way that it simply isn't practical to cover them all with resistances. You can focus on a select few damage types that you know will cause your problems in the next zone (such as fire and ice in the Vor Armory or blight in the Dark Crypt), but trying to cover everything is an exercise in futility. Stat bonuses are usually more widely applicable than particular resistances.

Yeah, also +HP and +healmod items are great. At middle levels, getting 50 HP and 15% healmod from armour of Eyal (for example) is almost universally better than 10-20% resist to any combination of elements.
