I don't think it's worth messing with. Preying on weak allies, as has already been said, is very corruptor-ish. Carving out a special exception to how summons work specifically for one spell strikes me as too much micromanagement. All that said, if summons should be changed so that they go hostile whenever you damage them, I'm fine with that.

Flavour has nothing to do with it. The problem is that optimal play requires you to grind for resources, which is against the design goals of the game.
