[1.0] Lvl 43 Champion of Urh'Rok vs. Lvl 16 Dwarf Berserker?
http://te4.org/characters/28485/tome/0f ... d21633f6ad
I'm in the Ruined Dungeon, playing roguelike. I've defeated 5 out of 6 guardians. It's moderately challenging, but I'm extra careful. I open the last door. Some ant guardian is there. No problem; it's like the others. Then out of nowhere a level 43 Champion of Urh'Rok rushes me. Huh? I'm level 16. He has an enormous number of life points, and he hits hard. I try to teleport away, but that rune "has been disrupted by anti-magic forces". I can't walk away, as he sticks with me, despite my confusing him. Then I die. (For some reason my character log doesn't record the killing blow, but it came shortly after the events in the log. He would repeatedly hit me, and I couldn't hit him, or get any distance from him.)
This champion's level was out of all proportion to everything else in this dungeon, and certainly to me. I'm happy to run away if things get serious, but my teleportation was immediately disabled when he appeared. (Why?)
It seems as if there was nothing I could do, and so I can't learn from this death. The general level of creatures in this zone did not lead me to believe that suddenly a guy who is triple my level could arrive in one turn, disable my teleport, and then kill me.
Is this a bug, or is this supposed to happen?

Ruined dungeon can be tough. Level 16 seems a bit too low for it, IMHO.berenbelagund wrote:http://te4.org/characters/28485/tome/0f ... d21633f6ad

Also, anti-magic forces. You were wearing an antimagic item, "infused by arcane-disrupting forces". These will cause you to randomly fail spells/runes and drastically reduce your spellpower.

I don't know if he was wearing an antimagic item. I think Champions of Urk'Rok have Spell Feedback...
And although 16 is arguably too low for Ruined Dungeon, no one going there is going to be ready for a Champion of Urh'Rok.

Ruined Dungeon is the entrance to the extremely randomized Infinite Dungeon.
It having extremely randomized enemies fits, to a fair degree.
It's also hard to avoid, more importantly, with some classes of enemies(That stretch over a wide area of levels), due to how the out of depth system and enemy randomization works. This is why Lake of Nur has those occasional really evil horrors, as well.
Totally avoiding it would require retooling the game's enemy system pretty strongly.
Ak'gishil showed up for me in Nur once, incidentally.

Interesting. So someone who wants to rely on a teleport rune should never wear antimagic items?XLambda wrote:Also, anti-magic forces. You were wearing an antimagic item, "infused by arcane-disrupting forces". These will cause you to randomly fail spells/runes and drastically reduce your spellpower.

So even though the level of the dungeon is 10-30, it's to be expected that the game will throw a lvl 43 champion in there on occasion? Essentially, the level of the zone is a rough estimate? Just checking.SageAcrin wrote:Ruined Dungeon is the entrance to the extremely randomized Infinite Dungeon.

Also, I had no intention of opening the sealed door after the pillars. I was just preparing the place so I could come back later.

But Ruined Dungeon only has one level, correct? Or when you speak of enemies "that stretch over a wide area of levels," you mean something else by that phrase than levels of a zone?SageAcrin wrote:It's also hard to avoid, more importantly, with some classes of enemies(That stretch over a wide area of levels), due to how the out of depth system and enemy randomization works. Thanks for the input, in any event.

Nope. You'll want your TP to work 100% when you need it. Darkgod knows, there are already enough nasty effects from the enemies which prevent you to do so (the Spell Feedback prodigy, which has been mentioned here, for ex.).berenbelagund wrote:Interesting. Do note that a psychoportation torque works with AM items, and despite Spell Feedback, because it's not a "spell". Might even work while confused, not sure exactly.
Re: [1.0] Lvl 43 Champion of Urh'Rok vs. Lvl 16 Dwarf Berser
pretty sure all charms work when confused. At least I've never seen I fail.
Re: [1.0] Lvl 43 Champion of Urh'Rok vs. Lvl 16 Dwarf Berser
That is correct. Silence doesn't prevent using them and they can't be put on cooldown by stun. Although you can tp just 2 squares away sometimes it's one of the most reliable escape options.
Tbh, I kinda wish that there wasn't psychoportation because playing an AM character would be quite a different choice. With AM psychoport I always felt like I have my cake and eat it too.

Just to clarify, the issue is, it can spawn demons.
Since it can spawn demons, it can spawn Champions of Urh'Rok.
Champions of Urh'Rok have a minimum level of 43.
So if one spawns, it will be level 43, because it can't appear any lower.

By "it" are you referring to the Ruined Dungeon?
Re: [1.0] Lvl 43 Champion of Urh'Rok vs. Lvl 16 Dwarf Berser
So if [a Champion of Uhr'Rok] spawns, [the Champion of Uhr'Rok] will be level 43, because [the Champion of Uhr'rok] can't be spawned having any lower of a level.
Re: [1.0] Lvl 43 Champion of Urh'Rok vs. Lvl 16 Dwarf Berser
Low level zones are protected from out of depth (OOD) enemies. The Ruined Dungeon is not a low level zone though, so it is not protected. Throughout the rest of the game OOD enemies are possible, but they're more unlikely the more over-leveled/OOD they are.
In other words, a level 43 Champion of Uhr'Rok is very, very unlikely, so you just got very unlucky.
