Alchemist. You can get close to doing 100% cold damage with your character from your gems, staff, and golem by appropriate modifications such as inserting the right gems into your golem.

Alchemist in arena mode. You level really fast and there's no distractions like exploring etc.

More specifically (alchemist), max the first the first 3 skills in the bomb tree and frost infusion. Bomb everything.

Necromancer is even earlier but requires the necromancer which is much harder then ice.

Might also try this. It's not FAST, but it'll net you Ice in a few hours, or overnight, and you don't have to force yourself to play a particular kind of character you might not like.

Your method is about as cheaty as editing the allow_build file.

If you want to put in effort to unlock ice, do it. If you don't, then don't, just don't think up exploits and then accuse other people of cheating. Because that makes you a hypocrite.
