Where is spider dungeon?

I could not find the spider dungeon despite mapping the entire east. Where is it on the map? Please note that I spoke with Aeryn before searching the map. She did not give me any options to take on the spider quest.

There's a different critter in the town you have to talk to to activate the spider quest. Kinda' upper middle part of the map -- s'a blue p in ASCII, iirc.

What is the shockbolt tile for the character? Kind of a moot point because my character just died, but I really want sun paladin!

Checking the map file, th'lady should be just a couple tiles west of the 3 shop, which is... weapons? The knife shop. You're looking for Melnela.

Just look for characters with the speech bubble on them.

She looks like this. That's the Shockbolt tile on the SVN; username is "guest" and password is "guestor" if you haven't used the SVN before.

Err... don't you get the Sun Paladin unlock by talking to Aeryn the first time, when she's blocking the entrance to town, and choosing the second option, which is something like "We don't have Sun Paladins where I come from"?

When did that change?

You unlock sun paladins by defeating the boss of the spider cave and talking to the lady who gave you the quest. I think it was that way when I started playing (b27).

Strangely enough, the "We don't have Sun Paladins in Maj'Eyal" option only shows up if you've already unlocked Sun Paladins.

OK. Looks like I was confused. I checked all the way back in beta 12b, which is the oldest beta-to-SVN mapping on record. I checked the SVN code, and even back then it gave you the "What's a Sun Paladin" chat choice only if you had already unlocked Sun Paladins (which looks like a bug to me -- perhaps the check was supposed to be negated). Notably, however, you reported completing the spider quest back to Aeryn, not to a different person in town. So you did get the Sun Paladin unlock from Aeryn -- just not through the chat choice I thought, and not as early as I thought. (You also had to finish the spider quest to get her to move aside and let you go shopping.)

Trying to find an even older version, binary searching... the chat didn't exist in SVN revision 718, but it did exist in 734, and it's essentially the same in 734 as it is in beta 12b (1420).

If you play with a Dwarf Sun Paladin, it's amusing that neither Aeryn nor yourself notice that you are a Sun Paladin.
