And you have far better AI, and more flexible character building abilities. Hopefully.
It's perfectly fair, for a given definition of fair that is extremely hard.

Of course it is fair, game is very possible to beat. It just sux to get killed like that after so many hours. I understand posters' above arguments, i dont necessarily agree with them. I still think that getting killed by a single hit (from almost 100% HP to 0, almost 300 damage overkill) is a slight balance problem.
Re: How do you deal with it?
Yeah, I kinda agree.
I'd rather attack it from a different angle than just removing the (interesting) skill, though.
For instance, the hit there shown was a critical hit. I notice that Massok runs with a battleaxe(highest critical hit rate weapon type), massive armor, headgear, and boots(randomly will have critical boosting egos on them).
Switching him to a Greatmaul would raise his overall damage, but lower his rate-meaning he'd be less likely to crit with that one big skill. (Or you could swap him to a Greatsword. For more balance between these two ranges. Also to match his description...)
Of course, they do more damage...so when he does crit with that, you're even more likely to die.
...having said all of that, looking it over, the way to attack the crit rate is extremely obvious, he has L5 Mortal Terror. Just remove that. He'll be fine anyways.

Re: How do you deal with it?
Just got hit by Massok on a Wyrmic, and it would have dealt ~1600 damage if I hadn't been blocking, and that's through 50 armour and 10% resistance. That is a little bursty for my taste.
