[1.0] Bandit lord unlocks Summoners

#1 Post by aardvark »

Seeing a Bandit lord summon his bunch of thieves unlocked the Summoner class. They're not exactly Wilders.

Though it would be awesome if it unlocked some kind of Crime Boss class where you could summon thieves.

Any summon unlocks summoners. Why are you so picky ;)?

Pretty much every summoning monster uses the same talent, and it's not a wild-gift, either. Bandit lords, honey trees, the undead (who are definitely not wilders)...

It's the mental imagery. A bandit lord "summoning" his followers brings to mind some scraggly, unkempt ne'er-do-well kicking his men awake and shouting, "Git 'em!" Summoners, though, evoke an enlightened being tapping into the collective consciousness of nature to call for aid, an inclusive reaching out to like minded natural forces, or some other less nauseatingly romantic and poetical sentence fragment.

Yeah, "enlightened being" applying to wilders gave me a bit of chuckle. More like old-style shaman or medicine men banging around skulls on a stick and tricking spirits into controlling animals for them or... something.

General point being that wilders tend toward kinda' crazy. Lore blurbs and general behaviors seem to point to either equilibrium being nearly as badly corrupting as arcane powers or the natural spirit of Maj'Eyal being pretty hostile to like, everything. Everything sentient, anyway.

I'm sure they think they're enlightened!

That's a shameful stereotype to perpetuate. Summoners stopped the whole skull-onna-stick thing long ago. These days, we go for the far less disturbing "sentient rock covered in fleshy tumorous growths."

Is there a difference between Bandit Lords and Assassin Lords? Because I killed an Assassin Lord and all his summoned minions (bar the ones that would be summoned from the "Summoning Traps" my uncanny senses detected, though I did set off one of them and I killed all the minions it spawned) as well as all the other enemies in the dungeon (and rescued some merchant and got an achievement for it!), and I don't have access to any non-default class except the Archmage, which I unlocked via the quest for retrieving a magic artifact.

Ah, I see. I saw some other guys in the room standing around which I killed before I tackled the Assassin Lord, so I assumed that he summoned those, especially considering there were only 2 types of traps I found in the level -- alarm traps and summoning traps. Thanks for clearing that up.

Strangely it is. Ghoulkings too. Check their talent description. "is a nature gift and a summon power"
