Spells cost no mana - bug or feature?

#1 Post by aiqtidar »

So I'm playing an alchemist (reached level 49 now) and I've suddenly noticed that none of my spells actually deplete my mana anymore - the sustains still work properly by reducing my max mana but none of the active abilities will reduce my mana beyond that. The only way my mana ever goes down now is when some enemy uses a manadrain ability - but even that doesn't make any practical difference (if spells cost zero mana, it doesn't really matter how much of it I have).

I don't think I've acquired any item or ability that would allow me to achieve something like this legitimately, but before I write up a post in the bug forum I just wanted to make sure that it was indeed a bug.

A few (non-bug) possibilities:
- Are you using gems that recover mana, and only using throw bomb/shockwave bomb?
- do you have ~100% crit rate and enough mana-on-crit items to cover the cost?
- is your mana regen high enough to cover the cost before you can see it?

and some questions:
- does the cost still show up in the talent description?
- can you still cast spells if you don't have enough mana to cover the cost? (may be tough to test)

Failing that, it might be that you have a permanent "hidden resources" style effect bugged onto your char.

I'm not using any of the bomb skills (in fact, I didn't have any points in that tree at all until the last couple levels, when I ran out of other places to put class points into)

The spell costs are showing up normally (i.e., they don't show up as zero). My basic offensive abilities are Channel Staff (5.2 mana) and Heat (10.4 mana). During combat (especially a long combat), I will cast Refit Golem (10.4 mana) and Supercharge Golem (20.4 mana) at least a few times. I will also occasionally use Stone Touch (46.8 mana), Golem Portal (41.6 mana), Gem Portal (20.8 mana) and Firestorm (72.8 mana).

None of these are currently costing me any mana, and as far as I can see, I only get 12 mana on crits along with a 49% spell crit rate - as well as a regen rate of a couple mana per turn (which wouldn't be nearly enough by themselves to cover the costs on most of these abilities).

Edit: And yes, it is too difficult for me to bring my mana down low enough that it's below the costs for any of my spells (even the highest-cost ones). Even the magehunter manadrains leave me with enough mana to cast Firestorm.

Got any addons active, I've had that happen with some faulty addons clashing. (mine :/)

The only addons I have are Stone Wardens and Item Vault, and those came with the initial download.

I'm pretty much certain at this point that it's permanent bug (at least on this character). I'm close to the end with this character though, so I'm going to finish the game with this guy and hope it doesn't happen on future ones.
