Another one new to TOME

#1 Post by Mandragoran »

I love this game!

(I just wanted my first words on this forum to be exactly those.)

Hey folks!

I have a few questions, but I'd like to introduce myself first. So if you dont care, skip to the questions;

Im a decently old gamer, about 33,56868 years old today. I've been playing Moria alot, and I mean alot. Havent really played any other rogue-like games, except Zork. Been a big fan of all AD&D based stuff, roleplaying games, oldschool games in particular - read Lord of the rings 7 times and love MERP especially (the rl RPG) and a big fan of fantasy in general. I teach math and physics, but im a mathematician, not a physicist. I dont smoke cigarettes, marihuana, heroine or any other substances - I love my wife and I praise no gods.

Thats about it. Oh.. and I like beer. and wine. Around a fireplace preferably. Out in the open, under the stars. MMmm and with progrock-music like yes, king crimson etc.

I love my job, but I've been looking for something to occupy myself while my students work their assignments. I've tried alot, I mean from WOW/RIFT/SWTOR etc to Solitaire, It just doesnt do it for me. Im so happy to have found this intricate game and the challenge it gives!

First question; This would probably be answered quite fast by DarkGod, -Everytime I log on, I get the message "Online profile disabled(switching to offline profile) due to no online profile active." - What online profile? This one, on this forum? Might be stupid question, but I dont get it. I heard about some races and etc that you only get access to if you donate, so I'm just interested in making sure I'm correctly registered when I donate.

So I have a proposal - which should probably be in the idea sector, but I'll put it here as it's in connection with my first question - There should be a "Register" button in the Main Menu when you open TOME. This should give you a forum name and then point to the forums and the social part of the game. Im no wiz when it comes to software and game-programming, but I know what keeps me coming back to softwares and games. For old farts and people who's interested but dont have the time to spend half their day finding the right way - Having registered to a forum is a big number to add on the "coming-back-again-factor" as it is where you both meet people and learn from people. The game itself is quite lonely =)

A second question, - I read an article from 2010 or so where people asked about the behemoth hide, with it's +1 size thingy and wether or not size would ever matter. In that post it was stated that it would, but that it was unsure how and when and who and which and whence and so? Any progress on this? I got it around lvl 20 and am wondering wether to keep it or mogrify it as it is taking up space.

A third question, [THIS MIGHT BE A SPOILER QUESTION] when you start in Norgos Lair, you can get either 1 or 2 quests on your way down. I might be totally wrong here, but I believe I once got a quest on lvl 2 of the dungeon and then one on lvl 3. The last 5 chars I've created (Thaloren Bulwarks) however has only gotten a quest on lvl 3. So my question is, first; Am I just wrong? Second; if not, is it random? Or is there some trigger to it? Please dont answer me with "thats for us to know and you to find out" :P

Grateful for any response.

/F.

Welcome!

I don't know about your first question and proposal, so I'll leave it for others.

#2: Size category is still mostly useless, it only affects a few fringe effects, nothing that you will run into very often.

#3: It's random, roughly a 50% chance in each eligible level. If you are restarting the character instead of making a new one (which could be identical, btw), it might only be rolling the "randomness" once.

Thanks for the response =)

Seems as if whenever I restart the char, quests come less often. Been checking it out now the last hour, created 7 chars and i've went from 1 quest to 0 quests in the long run (on the last 4 restarts i got 0 quests). Might be bad luck, but with 50% chanse, "bad luck" dosent seem likely.

Go here:

http://te4.org/user/register

Create an account, then when you launch the game you should get a request to login or something like that.
Regards

Jon.

Don't worry about missing the escorts. You will eventually find them elsewhere. Every character gets the same number of escorts scattered amongst various dungeons.

I don't think it's anywhere near a 50% chance, so don't worry about that. And welcome! If you get an online profile by the way you'll find the game much less lonely :)
