Someone broke LOS targeting.

#1 Post by Crim, The Red Thunder »

I cannot fire my beam spells in a straight line. Have found 2 circumstances for this, in which pathing is (somehow) incorrect.

Edit: Thanks, got the upload to work.

Both of these occured in the temporal rift.

I am endeavoring to make a diagram, but essentially, when I fire on a diagonal, in a confined space, despite being a straight line with a clear field of view, I aapppear to sudden VEER a beam in a different direction then the one I'm shooting, stoppig me from firing.

X = wall/tree/whatever surface
@ = you
/ = intended path of spell.

Code: Select all

XXXX@X
XXX/XX
XX/XXX
X/XXXX
/XXXXX

That's what the attack SHOULD be doing, a clear line of sight exists all the way down. However, The path the spell is ATTEMPTING to follow is as such

Code: Select all

XXXX@X
XX//XX
XX/XXX
X/XXXX
/XXXXX

WHY it attempts to magically cover that extra tile that happens to be inside a wall I do not understand, as both I and monsters along the diagonal have perfectly clear line of sight to each other.

I have 2 seperate screenshots decribing this situation in a different way, far better then I can in text, but...
First example. Cannot Fire Diagonally at shown teluvorta.

Seems similar to your example. Sorry I didn't think to get the targeting line up with this one. It collides with the wall above the teluvorta, preventing it from reaching the target.

Better example, doesn't appear to match your shown example. You can see how targeting in a DIRECT DIAGONAL (it doesn't show the mouse cursor, unfortunately), the tile southwest of the chronolith twin is NOT targetable, because it is apparently colliding with the tree first, despite there being no logical reason for it to do so. This does NOT appear to match your example, and is even odder. (I was attempting to target an AOE spell further out so as not to hurt myself. Something that USED to work.)

Thanks for the feedback.

See the second image from this thread:

Actually, here's the image that demonstrates what I suspect is going on:

Perhaps a setting should be tweaked to allow for more natural diagonal vision and shooting. I should do more testing of LoS before it's changed though :D

*p.s. I would still like to see your screenshots if you can manage.

Got them uploaded. Thanks for the help. While one seems to match your example, the other does not. New post to drag your attention to this.

Cool, thanks. The same principle applies to both images. The temporal rift is perhaps counter-intuitive because you can see through that terrain and it looks like you should be able to target the enemy. In the second image, you're still targeting a tile you can't see.

You're not the first person to bring this up, and I think it might make sense to increase the permissiveness setting a little so such diagonal shots are possible.
