[RC4] Staff of Absorbtion destroyable/unwinnable game

On the world map I want to destroy some alchemy stones by dropping them, but I accidently selected the staff of Absorbtion. This destroyed the staff, even though it's a plot item. If I try speaking to the elder, no options for showing him the staff appear and I'm stuck in dialog.

This game has become unwinnable...
