How "Beta" is this game?

How "Beta" is this game?
This looks really neat and I even gave it a vote on Steams Greenlight, but I noticed it is still in beta. So my question is, how in beta is this game? Is it really far off from release? Is it best to wait? Is it buggy still and/or unfinished?
Re: How "Beta" is this game?
It's been way beyond what I'd call beta for a long time now. It's highly polished and packed to the brim with features and content. There are few games in the world which rival this.
The latest "beta" release is the last major content push, with future releases focusing more on polish, bug-fixing and balance before the 1.0 version. And after that I believe the concentration will be on expansion campaigns.
So yeah, go play! It's free, fantastic and fun.

Awesome thank you! Any good manuals or guides on this game you would recommend/link?

Usually I'll google tome4 (whatever I want to know about) and manage to find some various posts or website info. The website has some good info, though it's a tad technical, and the game is just about open source since the engine is wide open to be used to make your own games (as far as I remember anyway) so the ToME is basically just an included module/game that the creator has been working on.crazz2323 wrote:Awesome thank you! To agree with the other person, though, I'll say it's very un-beta. I've actually never even had the game full-on crash nor had any gamestopping bugs, and I've played about a dozen of the various beta versions. It's pretty damn solid! I really hope it gets the votes to succeed on Greenlight and get some proper exposure.

Re: How "Beta" is this game?
http://te4.org/dl/thirdparty/t4walkthrough/index.html is a decent walkthrough for the first part of the game, but keep in mind it is from b34, and many things have changed in the past nine betas. There isn't much that's more recent, though hopefully that will change with the content freeze being in place.
As for stability/polish, I've had the game completely freeze three or four times, through about 20 betas and around a dozen winning characters. I'd rate it better than the AAA games I've been playing recently for that.

I'd call it gamma now.
My feedback meter decays into coding. Give me feedback and I make mods.

There is a wiki with some details, but most of the game can be learned from the tutorials, tooltips, and asking in the online integrated chat feature in the game.

I skimmed through it out of curiosity and noticed something:lukep wrote:http://te4.org/dl/thirdparty/t4walkthrough/index.html is a decent walkthrough for the first part of the game, but keep in mind it is from b34, and many things have changed in the past nine betas.
Does this still hold true in the most recent beta (b43)? It seems like an odd mechanic to me, though my experience with roguelikes is limited (Dungeons of Dredmor led me to ADOM led me to ToME4).We are only level 1, and the first time we enter any particular shop, that shop's inventory will be generated -- using our character's level as an input. So if we open all the stores right now, they're all going to be stuck with level 1 equipment. We don't want that.
Re: How "Beta" is this game?
Yes, but this silliness have been fixed for the next release, so one doesn't need to worry about ones level when entering a store.Akaji wrote:Does this still hold true in the most recent beta (b43)?
