I dont't know if this has been discussed before, but I think the option to allocate or not the initial talent points should be a birth option, because it makes more sense to some classes / races combinations than others. Today we can only change the option inside a game and this only affects future games, so sometimes I must start a dummy char before the real one.
Edit: cleared the text a bit.
Allocate initial talent points as a birth option

You can actually redistribute points by right clicking the ones with a yellow or blue border, if that helps.

Re: Allocate initial talent points as a birth option
At first I thought turning off the initial talent point allocation was a good idea.
However, certain classes get auto-points in talents they might not meet the requirements for. If auto-assign is off, you won't be able to get points into those talents your character was supposed to have.
So, I tend to leave auto-assign on, but un-learn any talents I don't want as soon as I start the character.
I'm pretty sure all auto-assigned talents are able to be un-learned, unless it's something like Solipsism.

Re: Allocate initial talent points as a birth option
It frequently gets you skill levels in things you want but cannot start with without it. This does tend to even out in a few levels though as mostly it is because of playing a race and class that do not obviously match up like a dwarf mage. You get enough stats after the first couple of levels, and they naturally go into the ones you need anyway, that this is really just a major problem the first few levels or if you are playing a yeek. (Though some classes with multiple main stats get really tricky)
Most of the talents you cannot unlearn you want eventually if you have access to them. You just want them later when they are a positive instead of a negative (like the cursed talents). This makes the start harder but honestly a curse ought to have some small downside.
Just remember to switch things around when you get the first screen. If you goof it up to an unmanageable level you can always just start a new character, you certainly have not invested much yet.

It probably needs to be bug reported at some point, heh... yeeks are the ones that get shafted the hardest. Did you know a yeek reaver that doesn't gen with talent points allocated doesn't start with a second weapon? Or at least has a chance not to, I'm two for two so far. It's fun stuff. Last one I had didn't get an offhand weapon until I was off the island
Anyway, wouldn't mind seeing this as a birth option. It'd make some starts a bit less time consuming. Not much, no, but it adds up, ayuh.
