At the moment I'd disable it and enable "beta42(e)scape" - this takes you to an ethereal plane where mini npcs called "tome b42" walk around permanently confused and you are allowed to kill as many as want for as long as you want, until you run out of a new resource, called Frustration, which slowly builds during the game and then explodes in beta42(e)scape doing googles of damage to "tome b42" npcs. Even typing about beta42(e)scape apparently releases some Frustration resource, which is reset to zero when you start a new game.Frumple wrote:Dreamscape's definitely an interesting idea that needs some serious workIt's rare enough and information scarce enough that when you (fairly rarely, from my experiences so far) encounter it, it's a complete and total blindside that's probably going to instapop you. Nasty stuff, for all that the alternative combat or whatever's going on in there is pretty innovative, especially as roguelikes go. Mostly needs a hefty dose of "WTF is going on!?" injected into it, and a couple of sanity checks.
I'm not entirely sure what's been done to it in the SVN, but hopefully it'll be more sane come b43. In the mean time, you should definitely be able to comment out solipsists without too much effort, I think, if you want to. Or at least disable dreamscape, heh. Just replace it with, I'unno, golem taunt or somethin'.
It is anticipated that the Frustration Resource will be *SEVERELY" nerfed in b42, so much so that beta43(e)scape might not be required.
