How about throwing knives?

#1 Post by IvenGray »

Thought rogues can have some kind of ranged weapon. Throwing knives can be equipped as ammo, like arrows or shots, but it doesn't require a weapon in hands like a bow or sling to shot. As long as one's dex or str is high enough, anyone can equip it. Maybe throwing knives can use about 50% dex and 30% str (cun for rogues), and the capacity of throwing knives pouches can be a little smaller than quivers, about 5 as normal and 10 at most, And the range of it can be 3-5 tiles.
I think it can be an add for every class, and can be useful for those classes that are dex and cun focused. Berzerkers may use it occasionally for fun, and rogues can have a talent tree to make it a powerful choice.

I would also love throwing knives for the rogues, and a talent tree for them. Or boomerangs. I still miss the boomerangs from ToME 2.

+1 for boomerangs -- one-handed ammoless ranged weapons, capable of being dual-wielded; the dagger of the ranged weapons, compared to the 1hand of the sling and 2hand of the bow. Rogue escorts would be re-jiggered to mimic alchemist escorts, offering the cunning/survival stuff and the boomerang mastery tree.

Archers would get a second tree, as per the other ranged weapons. Rogues would get the boomerang tree having the base mastery and some kind of special rogue tree for boomerang tricks.

You could offhand a boomerang while holding a sling.

... now if only someone would code it :?

There are a couple of addons along those lines already, but I don't think it will be added into the main game. Check out the Charlatan by catwhowalksbyhimself and Thrown Weapons by grayswandir.
