Game freezes in Windows 7 (32-bit)

#1 Post by GustavEnk »

This is beta 36. The game seems to freeze for no obvious reason, occasionally. When it does, it seems to need to be closed (sometimes it doesn't respond to a close and needs to be terminated. Either way, I lose everything since my last save.

I don't see an obvious report of this in the forum, but it's frequent enough that I expect it's a known issue. But I'm posting just in case it isn't. If there's any data I can collect next time it happens to help diagnose, let me know.

Paul.

I have the same issue - and it happens every time with 10mins intervall.

Also, it freezes the OS for me, so i must reboot which is annoying.

Please advise?

Okay... At the risk of sounding like a broken record, are you using a computer with an older Intel graphics chipset? Or any other chipset that uses shared video memory?

For some reason, T4 seems to universally have problems with shared video memory chipsets, even ones that can run much more glitzy games fine. I wish I could tell you why. Maybe it has to do with the OpenGL version used... Not sure.

No, using AMD Radeon HD 6900. Everything should be rather new. Quite hard to find the cause because no log is ever written. When it crashes the log writing also crashes. What i found out so far is that (my) crash only happens during dialog widows (level up, inventory, selling/buying). Especially often the game crashes during selling/buying or when looking at inventory.

TO get a log, create shortcut, run t-engine.exe --flush-stdout

This creates realtime log. To watch it live, run baretail.exe. great way to learn about game mechanics too btw.

Also, under options, disable frame buffers.

Finally, sometimes when this happens, I can press CTRL s to save, and I hear the disk saving. Then when I kill the process, I return to this spot.

Getting similar effect, only the lock up seems to be centered around saves, possibly? Not sure. I'm running this on a laptop, which isn't old at all, but is definitely low-end. Lenovo thinkpad x120e

I have exactly the same problem as johan313. Even my graphics card is the same. I'm running 64-bit Windows 7 though.

I've experienced this in versions 39 and 41, haven't tried others though.

The first thing to try is updating your video card drivers, as this seems to be a common problem.
