This is my 3rd character in a row that die in Lake Nur because of nightmare horrors, and I really wonder if it is feasible.
They are insanely powerful, immune to ALL debuffing effects, 35% resist all, a high defense, 900+ HP,can pass walls, and with so many nasty AOE spells. The worse that was fatal to me in either case was inner daemons, that are more deadly than shadows, but are generated close to the player....
The last time, I was rather prepared, with the winter light, a mental wild inf, but it was not sufficient.
I had already successfully met some nightmare horrors in vaults in the far east. It was very challenging and fun, but I was level 40 or 45 and I had many defensing or offensive skills/equipments.
But how can a level 14 char deal with them? Any idea?

Re: Nightmare horrors in Lake Nur
What do players find more difficult Radiant or Nightmare horrors?
I'm asking because I'm considering increasing the rarity and min level on Nightmare horrors. This wouldn't make them impossible to encounter in Lake Nur but would make it a lot less likely.
If Nightmare horrors are just as or more challenging then Radiants, we can bump the rarity and level up.
*edit* Otherwise, Lake Nur isn't a level 14 zone. I know it's positioned at the end of OF but the zone level is a lot higher then OF is and it's meant to be a lot more challenging. I personally do OF after SWL and the Maze (to save myself from making a second trip) and tend to be around level 20 by the time I hit the zone (even on a skeleton I just ran). Doing OF right after finishing off the starting zones is very dangerous, even without running into Nightmare horrors you still have the chance of Grgglck spawning or a worm that walks, neither of which are out of depth for the zone.

Re: Nightmare horrors in Lake Nur
Radiant horrors are impossible to kill for low level adventurers but they're not really player killers, you can usually get away from them easily.
Nightmare Horrors start hunting you as soon as you enter the level and can surprise anyone without good see invisible and do some nasty damage + debuff (and Teleport isn't really an option).
I'd say Nightmare Horrors are the threat, Radiant Horrors are just annoying unless they're rares.

Re: Nightmare horrors in Lake Nur
Nightmare Horrors by far. I don't even bat an eye at Radiant Horrors, I just stun them and it's over. For Nightmare Horrors, unless I have access to a huge amount of burst damage, I always use my scummiest tricks, regardless of class or level. I can't think of a single non-boss non-unique enemy in the game that I take more seriously than Nightmare Horrors.
Re: Nightmare horrors in Lake Nur
I do believe if you enter Lake Nur at a lower level you might be able to skew the generation away from nightmare horrors...
I say this because I *rarely* in previous versions saw them pre-east. As in almost never- and I'm aware this was probably due to the fact I hit Lake Nur pretty early (1st tiers, maze, sandworm lair, old forest, lake nur).
Typical monster generation was devourers, invisible stalkers, and radiant horrors. Elites I ran into were usually Anacondas.
Anyways, that's kind of my tip in this case. Because Lake Nur generates an abnormally dangerous monster class, the earlier the better to hit IMHO.

Re: Nightmare horrors in Lake Nur
I don't even recall running into any radiant horrors in Nur, though I usually get a trio or two of luminous ones. They're extremely dangerous to certain classes that can't get past their resistances and damage, but they're beatable. Nightmare horrors in Nur, otoh, sound pretty nasty for that early in the game. I wouldn't expect to encounter them until at least Dreadfell.

So Radiant's need a buff?
(From the response in this thread I've decided to bump the rarity and level on nightmare horrors, thanks for the feedback.)
Re: Nightmare horrors in Lake Nur
Oh, please, no. Or at least make sure he was talking about radiants and not luminous, because radiants are already very buff.edge2054 wrote:Oy!donkatsu wrote:Nightmare Horrors by far. Though my dislike of them may be skewed by the fact that I mainly encounter them in vaults, which means they're tougher than usual.
Re: Nightmare horrors in Lake Nur
Perhaps. I honestly don't even know what Radiants do. I just treat them like Luminous horrors with more life. The problem with them is that 1.) they're defensively-oriented, and defensively-oriented enemies are unlikely to actually kill or endanger player characters, and 2.) they're vulnerable to stun, which makes them trivial to beat for the majority of classes. I think the only reason Luminous horrors are deadly is that they come in packs and have ranged spells that can shoot through each other. And even then, that advantage is completely negated by retreating around a corner.edge2054 wrote:Oy!donkatsu wrote:Nightmare Horrors by far.
