try pressing control while you are highlighting the item for a comparison.
But this could work if the shop dialogue instead opened up the inventory, with a tab for the shop's stock.

Obviously I know about control...
But it would be much much easier to allow a player to view all his worn items.
It could be under a different filtering tab and seen as items of a certain color in the general tab.
Another thing that would make things easier would be to show the tooltip for the other item you have on when pressing ctrl as oppose to how its done now...
