Twinning mindstar? Or maybe Dividing mindstar that turns into two Divided mindstars.

I see potential pairs in linked damage types:
physical + acid = kinetic
fire + cold = thermal
lightning + blight = charged
Darkness + Mind = Doomed

Another idea for synergistic bonuses or sets is to have two separate groups of parameters: damage types, and monster types, as follows (not necessarily exclusive with my other ideas, above):

Damage types: Any that are most commonly used by mindpower classes (Fire, acid, cold, lightning, physical, nature, darkness, mind, )
Monster types: Any that are primarily natural (Spiders, Dragons, Wolves, bears, insects, slimes, etc...)

Dragon + Fire = fire wyrm set
Dragon + Cold = cold wyrm set
Dragon + Lightning = lightning wyrm set
Dragon + physical = sand wyrm set

Spider + Cold = Faerlhing (?) set
Spider + Physical = Ulgomar (?) set
Spider + Nature = Spitting set

Insect + Fire = Ritch flamespitter set

Yet another idea: could/should sets be dependant on which one is in which hand? For example Dragon + Fire could give the fire wyrm bonus (activate for breathe fire, fire damage when hit), while Fire + Dragon could give the Dragonflame bonus (fire damage gets 20% bonus damage as burning over 3 turns, 20% resist penetration). The difference between the first and second is that in one, your Dragon power is getting more fiery, while in the other, your fire is becoming more draconic.

(and, yes, I realize that these would likely be difficult and time consuming to code, especially the interlocking sets. )

Woah, complicated ideas. :D For the ego sets, I'd rather it just be one ego that formed a set with itself (wielding two Resonating mindstars would give you the bonus, for example). If not, then the interface needs to indicate how items form sets so the mechanic is transparent (which I think is a natural expectation for non-artifact equipment). Otherwise there's just too much equipment juggling and guesswork.

As a possible reworking of lukep's idea, give every mindstar a bonus when wielded with another, and have the bonus depend on the slot it is equipped in.
Sorry about all the parentheses (sometimes I like to clarify things).

They should be fairly easy to figure out and I don't plan to do every mindstar ego as a set. I'm thinking just the greater egos will be.

So we're probably talking 10 or so egos to start with 5 sets total + the two wildcard mindstars to make set completion a bit easier.

That sounds OK, I'm just leery of item sets for the sake of item sets. Seems like they would punish anyone who wanted to use a single mindstar, which already might not be a very popular setup.
