Allow monsters to slowly go further away from a level's exit.
If strong monsters that you can't handle run after you to a level's exit you than cant return cause they all stay near the entrance..
Let monsters wonder off from level entrances, i.e. from the place they were when you left the level..
Suggestion:let monsters move back to default places

Re: Suggestion:let monsters move back to default places
No one has an opinion about this?
Re: Suggestion:let monsters move back to default places
No, it seems a bit weird. If a monster chases you out of a level and it's too strong for you... then don't come back till you're strong enough to beat it. Otherwise you could just scum levels till you can get around the monster.
Re: Suggestion:let monsters move back to default places
No, no.
the point is if you get chased back and wait x number of turns the monsters should slowly go back to their default places..
It only makes sense for this to happen.
Also this would make it more balanced for characters relying on traps and stealth, and archers...
ATM its all about being able to stand there taking the hits, making tougher character classes better like the Bulwark.

In plenty of situations ranged is king. If anything, the current behaviour with regard to stairs contributes to balance.BasiC wrote:Also this would make it more balanced for characters relying on traps and stealth, and archers...

Not that it is such a biggy. If your character doesn't do well in melee you should always have several ways to get distance between you and others. Boots of disengagement/phasing, movement infusions, phase door runes, teleport runes, the Rune of the Rift...
If you want to rely on traps and stealth, you need to invest in ways to break contact...
Ghoul never existed, this never happened!
Re: Suggestion:let monsters move back to default places
This would allow for incredibly scummy behavior. I'm not a fan of getting trapped or cornered at the level entrance, but this isn't the appropriate solution.
Sorry about all the parentheses (sometimes I like to clarify things).
Re: Suggestion:let monsters move back to default places
I don't like the idea because it offers a low risk kind of telepathy: enter a dungeon, find a difficult room (boss even), flee and wait a long time, come back and "know" where things are that level. It makes the game more predictable. It also makes sense to me that if you are fleeing NPCs they would lie in wait for you, and if anything I would prefer them to at least continue moving toward the entrance to ambush you. My previous statement precludes the possibility of NPCs moving between levels which would also be more realistic. Monsters don't have a "default position", they just have a place they were spawned. If we were trying to increase realism then NPCs would move around when they have not seen you.
<DarkGod> lets say it's intended
Re: Suggestion:let monsters move back to default places
Well than perhaps not to default places but just move around as oppose to staying in the exact same place?
Re: Suggestion:let monsters move back to default places
Then you can pick out single enemies without risk by just letting them disperse through the level if you find them too bunched up.
