[b37] losing party control as a summoner -> broken character

I summoned a minotaur in daikara 5 (which was already cleared) to check out the effect of my passive skills on his stats. I switched my party control over to him, looked at his stats page, and tried to switch back to my character without spending a turn. I couldn't do it: my character's image was unresponsive, as if he were dead. He was not dead. I waited a turn. My character starting running around randomly, with his party image indicating that he was not taking any damage. I still could not switch back. When my minotaur's summon duration stopped, I died instantly, "crushed by unknown". I could tell very clearly that my character was not inside a rock or near any enemies, nor was he being strangled by anything - I just died. All his talents were turned off in the AI, so he couldn't have done anything to himself.

I didn't think to check my character's hp after I first tried to take back control of him, because he was clean and healthy when I switched over, and he still seemed to be running around in a lively fashion. It's possible that he "died" (or was somehow unflagged as a PC) the instant I switched over to my minotaur, but that it only registered for the game when the minotaur unsummoned. I'm not running any mods.

Afterwards I end up on the map of the Daikara with an overlay of the void texture, and I get this when I try to move:



The character is permanently broken; even chosing the "bring me back somewhere else" option on the Plane after restarting the game deposits him on the borked Daikara 5 map. Using the Rod on that map results in this:



rapidly flashing over my screen again and again while my CPU tries to kill itself.
