Smaller levels

#1 Post by Grey »

There's some complaint about the length of certain dungeons and suggestions to cut down on the number of levels they have. Personally I like having a decent number of levels to progress through (since they tend to get more difficult each time), but it would be nice to have the levels smaller in size. Some dungeons that could do with shrunken maps:

- Ardhungol (desperately needs this - should be less than half its current size)
- Elven ruins (also desperately needed - even the minimap can't cope with the size of this dungeon, and only the last level contains any real threat)
- Breeding pits (it's mostly a lore setting anyway)
- All the prides

And there may be others... Trollmire could be slightly reduced too (about 20% smaller say). Due to the fight by fight nature of ToME big maps really don't add anything to the game other than tedium.

I did really like the old "Ironman" and "Only Generate Small Dungeons" options in the past tome versions. Would be nice to see something like this again.

I agree with Grey here. Also, please reduce level size for the infinite dungeon, and the Farportal.

My main issue with large levels would be that they slow my computer down to a crawl. Every move / input command takes 1-2 seconds to process on them, so for me they take ages to complete.
