Tactical Map Black

#1 Post by sam12six »

I read through pretty much the entire forum and didn't see anyone who had this issue. If it's there somewhere and I missed it, I apologize.

I've tried two versions (the latest and one about 5 versions ago, both with and without music) and have the same problem. When I start the game, it works perfectly... except the tactical map is completely blank. If I hover the mouse around, it'll give me the descriptions of the terrain/creatures, but I can't see anything.

I'm running Vista and have tried every compatibility setting for running the program, I've tried all the screen resolutions. I've tried toggling and resizing tiles.

If I'm just being an idiot, feel free to tell me so (as long as you mention the solution at the same time). Otherwise, I'm dying to try the new generation of ToMe and would be extremely grateful if someone could hook me up with a fix.

Thanks

I have the same problem a while ago, the tactical map is completely black.
I can see talent and other icon just fine though.

Press Escape to go to Game Menu, select Graphic Mode, change the style from Shockbolt to ASCII.
Later, change back the style to Shockbolt again, it works for me.

Thanks for the response. I just tried this again and it's still a no-go.

What's frustrating about it is that the tiles are active - I can use them to move around, attack creatures, etc - I'm just doing so blindly. It would be less annoying if the tactical map weren't working at all instead of teasing me with functionality but no visibility.

For your reference, here's my black map, we're talking about the same thing right ?

The other character load just fine, only that one is weird.
It's solved by the method in my first post.

What if you load your other characters, will it load just fine ?

That's exactly what my screen looks like!!

I only had one character, so I made another to see if it acted differently and it's the same deal - went through all the resolution options and toggled and resized tiles - nothing.

It kills me that this is probably some tiny, tiny thing (since the game works perfectly except for this problem) but I just don't know what it is...

Well, if you can't even start a game with a new character (I thought you've played before, leveled up to 30 and the map suddenly become black), this is probably a driver issue or vga card issue.

Use a program like CPU-Z or GPU-Z to determine the type of your vga card, and update the driver to latest version.
For Nvidia : http://www.nvidia.com/Download/Scan.aspx
For ATI (AMD) : http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/w ... etect.aspx
For Intel : http://www.intel.com/p/en_US/support/detect

Your post of the driver made me investigate that issue. I had to download an actual control panel program (which is now memory resident, so that's annoying) which must have also updated the driver and fixed the issue.

Thanks for the reminder (and since it's probably against the rules for someone else to say it, "I'm an idiot!!")
