I stress the word "unvaulted". It is blocking my progress to the next level of the Old Forest. Is this supposed to happen? None of my other characters have seen anything like this.

Yes, these are Out Of Depth (OOD) monsters, and are cruel tricks of the Random Number Generator (RNG). OOD's are strictly forbidden in the starter zones, but after that it is another part of life. Good luck with it!

I think it's funny that you could've responded with a blank post and your sig would've pretty much answered my question. You must get that a lot.
Thanks. And yikes.

Hehe, I didn't even think about that. How are you enjoying the game?

eh, pretty well. Encountering an out-of-depth creature like this is really forcing me to face my hypocrisy about linear, easy games vs. the innovation required for wide open challenges. Frustrating, and difficult, but loads of fun.

I'm curious - was it near a vault? It's possible it spawned as a vault creature, but outside of a locked door. However, based on your description in this thread and the other, I think I know what you encountered. Confusion is one of if not the most powerful standard status effects, and Mind Sear does some serious damage, so it's really not a surprise to struggle with a level 30 specimen. I tried recently to go through Old Forest with a somewhat underleveled rogue and had similar issues.
Sorry about all the parentheses (sometimes I like to clarify things).
