[b37]Apparent inconsistancy with Spellpower

#1 Post by Varil »

Originally this was going to be in General, since I'm not even sure what's going on here, but I decided to put it in bugs instead because something either isn't working as intended, or something is reporting things unclearly. I just don't know what.

My Corruptor just found a belt with +2 spell power(rough leather belt of the mystic). Since my current belt was just some weak life-regen, after mulling it over I opted to wear it, raising my spell power by...1?

Huh.

So I started examining the matter more closely and noticed that my character sheet doesn't line up with the 'quick stats' over on the left. In my character sheet, my spellpower is listed as 32 whether I have the +2 belt on or not, but it shows a +1 or -1 depending on whether I've just put on the belt or taken it off. My quick stats show 31 spellpower without, 32 with.

So...I'm not sure what's going on here. The belt doesn't seem to be providing the listed stats, and there appears to be a disagreement in rounding or something between the quick stats and character sheet.

Incidentally, I noticed that none of my spells *say* they use spellpower for scaling, just the magic stat in general, but spellpower does indeed appear to adjust my damage up or down. This probably isn't a bug, but given the general complexity of the game and the differences between classes, it might be a good idea to list spellpower in the Corruptor spells to prevent confusion.

Below are just some numbers to give an idea of how things are changing with/without the belt.

Magic stat : 33
Drain : 5/5(6.5 effective)
Soul Rot : 1/5(1.3 effective)
Blood Grasp : 5/5(6.5 effective)

Drain deals 127.37 damage without the belt, 129.72 with.
Soul Rot deals 70.67 without the belt, 72.10 with.
Blood Grasp deals 155.34 without the belt, 159.23 with.

The inconsistency is part of the zany changes to the way saves/powers work. It's tiered such that you need one more point to actually increase your "apparent" value for every 10 levels. The advanced tutorial explains it better. As for spellpower (and not directly Magic) increasing spell damage, yeah. That's a general issue with a great deal of the game's talent descriptions.
Sorry about all the parentheses (sometimes I like to clarify things).
