Everything unlocked for voratun donators

I'm fed up of trying to unlock Marauders. And Mindslayers for that matter. Gimme an incentive to donate more and I'll pay whatever you like.

I'm not a fan of the unlock system in general, but accept that it's part of the design. Much in the same way as infinite lives is available for donators, make full unlocks the same. Achievements would still be in the game of course, so I'd still have some incentive to achieve the unlock requirements eventually, but right now I just want to play Marauders to death.

(I cheated by editing a lua file to give them a whirl, but it felt dirty.)

Incidentally the donators page should be updated to note the Exploration mode available to donators. And maybe show the medal price points too.

Yeah it would be cool. Though, there something making the calculation of voratun status miscalculate for recurring donators.

That being said, i just asked DG on irc and he unlocked them for me. Possibly he would do it even for non donators. The unlock is excessively hard on the new system.

Eh, I understand where you're coming from, but I have to say that a system like this would remind me unfavorably of the sneaky payment schemes seen in various online games. Dunno if you ever played one of those, but basically they're free to play, but an become grindier and grinder unless you pay for X in-game resource. Sure, it'd be far removed from something like that, but I'm afraid it'd look pretty much similar and might scare a people and cost some goodwill. Just a word of caution.

That said, I found the Marauder unlock pretty annyoing, too - a quest based alternative unlock could maybe help, or if it wouldn't require you into playing a specific class ... maybe change it from requiring a rogue to just doing 600+ phys damage in one attack?

I think that a system like the one here would fix some of the issues with unlocks.

The gist of the thread is to have two methods for unlocking each class (etc.); one linked to character/story progression, the other being accomplished by grinding through multiple games. This would allow players to play classes that they could not beat the requirement for, for example a player gaining access to Doomed despite never being able to defeat the Dark Crypt, or Archmage despite not getting 10 rings/staffs/amulets (or an artifact) in any single game. I would shoot for an average of 50% of unlocks gained by grinding, 50% by specific targets as a goal for that system, but YMMV.

I've never had trouble with the unlocks (min/max FTW), so my perspective may be a bit off from the norm for this issue.

On IRC we discussed giving a random (semi random?) unlock for every 10h of gameplay, but currently gameplay is measured in "the game is running", and not active gameplay, and that'd need to be changed though.

Maybe every so many levels instead? It could be scaled so that higher levels are valued more, something like:
Levels 1-10 = 2 points each
Levels 11-20 = 3 points each
Levels 21-30 = 4 points each
Levels 31-40 = 5 points each
Levels 41-50 = 6 points each
With an unlock happening at 200, 220, 240, 260 etc... points. This means that 10 level 10 characters would get the first unlock, an additional 11 would get the second, another 12 would get your third. Instead of 10 level 10 characters, one level 50 character would be worth 200 points, enough for the first unlock (or a larger amount of progress towards a later one).

Just have an option in the menu to open up unlocks, so those that want to can just skip the unlocking process.
