The probably-known part is that rune of the rift bugs creatures out sometimes. Can cause them to become stationary, can cause dupes, but most importantly it sometimes levels them and their abilities up. I had it on my Golem on auto-cast, and in Dreadfell he created a nigh-invincible armored skeleton warrior by rifting him, and causing all of it's stats/abilities to increase drastically when he came out of it.
So... turns out that if you cast it on yourself from a minion, it causes you to level up to what I assume is the zones level. On insane at least, using it in the lake of nur right after the temporal bosses will get you to 47, last hope will get you to 49. Have to hit yourself with it a few times. Works with shadowblades using it from ambuscade on themselves, and golems casting it on the alchemist, those were the only ones with controllable minions that I know of that I tested.
This was in b36, haven't gotten around to trying out b37 yet.
