[b36] displacement shield issues

#1 Post by Fela »

Right now the talent seems a bit broken.

- range doesn't work as advertized, the target will be accepted even if out of range (not sure this needs fixing)
- can be targeted without LoS (for example via arcane eye)
- my biggest gripe: the reflected damage apparently bypasses the target's resistance mechanisms (my fireblast hit OMHWs for something like 130 dmg and my DP reflection of the same blast for something like 500), not 100% sure, but the reflection might actually happen before player resistance too (unfortunately i did not find the code for the actual shield effect :))

What I'd propose as a fix:
- it can still be targeted without LoS or range
- actual damage will only be transferred within LoS and within range, otherwise it acts like a damage shield
- damage will be transferred as a spell attack, maybe apply +25% pierce resistance, so it's not completely useless vs. elemental monsters which usually have 100% resistance to their own element

I believe the idea of the talent is that it is bending reality in order to transfer the damage to the target, so it would make sense that it doesn't reqiure LoS, and also that the damage would be directly applied to the target rather than the spell itself being reflected back.

Also, I believe the damage transferred is the damage the player would have taken after player's saves and resists. It would be a little much to have the damage reduction stack from both parties.

There are other talents that ignore defenses.

Have you actually played an Archmage at high level yet?

Also, where did you read that I want both damage reductions stacked? I'd prefer if only the final recipient's applied.

Another funny thing: The fiery choker's damage absorb triggers despite the damage being reflected.
