Music and sound as an addon?

#1 Post by Canderel »

Now that addons are here, would it be possible to add music and sounds as an addon rather than 2 seperate builds?

And actually graphics could be too... Giving us a small probably 5-10mb "game", and 100+mbs of add ons...

That's actually supported already, without doing addons. I need to work on the updater to make things work though.
The idea is that there will be 4 "things": the binary & various system libs; the engine, the game module, the music&sounds archive, the gfx archive.
When a new version is release your game would download a *patch* for each of them; drastically reducing download size (from 117MB to probably like 1/2MB usually)
[tome] joylove: You can't just release an expansion like one would release a Kraken XD

Sounds more like a get command with options.

Like "get tome -nosounds" to ignore the music and sfx.

Or "get tome -oldrpg" for the old rpg tileset.

Are you saying it's possible already... cause how would I go about "adding" the music to the team file? I'd prefer having it seperate...

So darkgod said on IRC, you can already do this... (For music, but I'm sure you can do it for gfx too)

In your T-Engine folder (the one where your saves are), under T-Engine\4.0\tome\ create a folder called data and inside it music, so you have:

T-Engine\4.0\tome\data\music\

then copy all of the music there, and you never have to download the music version again. Though if new music gets added you won't have that.

I'm sure sounds and even gfx will work the same way.

A quick preview of one of the tunes I'm working on...

(please note that this is still a rough and incomplete version, and only a brief sample)

-- NOTE: Limited rights are given to preview this sample and any other music samples I upload to these forums. Please don't share the files with others. When complete, the music will be released much more freely. =)

And another little bit... this one's a sort of "chase" type thing, or battle...

Maybe good for an "Ambush!" type of screen?

(again, this is just a quick rough sample)

oops... just found out .ogg files aren't allowed =(
