b34 Character not Available in Load Screen

#1 Post by ry4444n »

This happened to me twice so far, both times on separate characters in Dreadfell:

I'll save and exit, then when I go to load my game my character isn't listed in the load screen. The game still 'remembers' the character everywhere else ("wizard is alive and well in Dreadfell") and the character file is still in my Tome directory. And, the online database still says he's alive.

I've tried moving the file, copy/pasting it to see if the game would re-recognize it, but it refuses to. Just doesn't list it in the load screen. Nasty little bug- I can't figure out how to recover my character if everything's where it should be but the game says it isn't.

In beta 28, I had the same problem, and on further inspection of the save game folder, the character was saved with a .tmp extension ( or something obviously similar ). I manually renamed the file without this added extension, started ToME, and the game found the saved character, which loaded and played as expected.

Hopefully, this easy fix is what you need.

thanks to the above response i got both my characters back!

world.teag in the character folder was renamed world.teag.tmp, so I just reverted it to world.teag, and everything's gravy.

thank you much.

I have the same problem but that fix did nothing. The world.teag was named something else, I renamed it world.teag and it did nothing to help. All of my characters are labeled name.teae, and have a name.quickbirth and name.hotkeys extension as well. This is all in the main save directory.
