Thanks for the advice. I grabbed Swallow, which helped me getting the storage place (avoiding spoilers, but I hadn't gotten there before because I lacked a very helpful power granted by an apparently fairly rare bit of equipment.) It was tough at level 15. Swallow will help enormously...I was starting to worry that the Wyrmic class skills were going to be all-but-useless to me.

I'm sure I'll have more questions later. Though I do have one related to another character, my first one to survive for any length of time, actually. I had to flee Derth because I wasn't prepared for what I found there. Now I still have the quest listed as Active, but the town has returned to normal. Was this a mistake on my part (leaving town) or a glitch because this is the beta version of the game?

It's probably a graphical glitch. If you return, the twirly bastards should still be there. (unless you did kill them all, in which case, the quest continues elsewhere)

As far as that rare bit of equipment goes, you can actually usually find a piece or two in a shop. Belts are cheapest and most available, I think. Still, you can make it without those items pretty easily, assuming you don't get locked up by freezing/blind.
Sorry about all the parentheses (sometimes I like to clarify things).

I did keep an eye out for helpful stuff after I saw some armor with the power. But that was 200+ gold, which was beyond my means.

The town remained normal after multiple visits. I've decided to hold off visiting with my current wyrmic until I feel confident that I can beat them.

You can't hold out too long, though. If you don't rescue Derth by a certain character level, it's too late.

Gotcha. Went ahead and did it. I'm not wild about time/level limit quests when you have no idea that you're under the gun (especially since I didn't even realize I'd gotten the quest until I checked out the quest list.)

You should generally do Derth after level ten, but before level...let's say 16.

I can't find anything in the code to verify this. No dialogue, no quest status changes, nothing in the code for Derth.

Iirc, there's an upper level limit on triggering the E attack on entrance, though I forget exactly what that level is. If you enter Derth after that point, without triggering the quest previously, nothing happens. No E attack, no Urkis, etc.

Can't seem to find it in code, though, so it may have changed. On the other hand, the computer I'm currently online with is absolute crap for codesearching, so... yeah. It definitely could be missed entirely at some point in the past.

As for when to do it... I generally say after Old Forest + Nur, but before Daikara. Usually jump it around the 15-18 range, depending on the character. Waterbreathing can make the fight a bit more manageable (fight outside the main area of the town, in the water), as can teleportation, but you're generally going to have trouble if you manage to aggro more than two or three elementals at once. If you can keep the numbers manageable or have solid AoE damage plus the ability to tank a few rounds of heavy damage, you shouldn't have much trouble with it.

Naturally, stacking on some lightning res kit can make things trivial :P

Took me a while to find it, but it's defnitely still in there. It's in game/modules/tome/data/zones/wilderness/zone.lua.

More, I will not say here, because this is supposed to be spoiler-free.

Are "dungeons" supposed to re-set? I just ventured into The Old Forest because my recall disc disappeared and my Rod of Recall no works as it did when I first got it. The Forest has been re-set and is filled with (not-very-dangerous-anymore, heh) monsters again.

Also, my map's "memory" of overland fluctuates. I keep losing it and having to re-explore to get them lit up on my worldmap again. Is there some way to make it permanent?

Edit: to clarify...there was no boss, and the Lake levels are the same as I left them. It's just the Old Forest that's been reset, without a boss.

Nope, that sounds like a bug.

Definitely a bug. I got back to the storage area, teleported out, and when I returned again, I had to fight the boss. Once I beat him, I found all my stuff gone from the storage area and the guy near the orb had disappeared. :|

That happened to me in Beta 28.

Zones you're not in shouldn't even be loaded in memory to get mangled in the event of a crash. That's the point of having zones in the first place, isn't it?

It's annoying. But I'm going to see if I can do a couple more unlocks with this character, then start a new one. Started on one, but, whoa, got the floor wiped with me.

Is there any way to track how many X you've killed over multiple games, or how much Y damage you've done?

For Fire/Cold damage, check the Pyromancer/Cryomancer achievements. For humanoid kills, the Reaver achievement might track that (I'm not certain, it's been a long time since it's been unlocked for me).
