Not very much control. But the code is open so you can see what is transmitted and what's not.
But I agree there could/should be much more options regarding those things.

Re: Returning to Tales of the Midd...er, Maj'Eyal
Not that I can read code.
But maybe I'll just get my bearings for a bit and then create a profile once I'm comfortable with the game. Quick question: is there any way to create a hotkey (and, if so, exactly what steps are involved) to do diagonal moves? I use a laptop almost exclusively -- I haven't touched my desktop in so long I assume it's still on XP -- and the number row doesn't perform the same as the number pad on a standard full-size keyboard. It's annoying having to drag the cursor to click whenever I want to aim diagonally (the arrow keys, of course, are fine for the cardinal directions.) Barring that, may I suggest tying diagonals to unused standard keys in the next update?

Re: Returning to Tales of the Midd...er, Maj'Eyal
There certainly is. I use alt + arrow keys on my Mac. Keybindings are accessed via the "esc" menu.
Sorry about all the parentheses (sometimes I like to clarify things).
Re: Returning to Tales of the Midd...er, Maj'Eyal
Not working for me. Oh well. Guess I can use the exercise in my trackpad finger.

Re: Returning to Tales of the Midd...er, Maj'Eyal
You can customize the keys... via the "main menu", but I can't recall if diagonal movement is mappable.
The interface is fairly easy:
Action (left-up): kpd 7, -, -
Click on the left, middle, or right shortcut to set it. (Esc to cancel)
Each action has up to 3 keys that can perform the identical function. You can also bind mouse gestures to actions.

Re: Returning to Tales of the Midd...er, Maj'Eyal
Not working for me in doing diagonals. I'll live.
But I am annoyed that all the icons for powers disappeared from the bottom part of the screen. I'd rather not have to access a new page or memorize the hotkeys. More to the point, I'd like to be able to tell at a glance what's active, how many rounds are left, etc. Any idea how I can get these powers to show up again?

Re: Returning to Tales of the Midd...er, Maj'Eyal
Default keybind is page up/page down. It could also be displaying monster lists, in which case hit tab.
Re: Returning to Tales of the Midd...er, Maj'Eyal
There we are. Finally. Thanks. I was trying everything while on the world map, which is why it didn't work. Then I went and met a hobbit hermit and the game froze. Sigh. All part of being a beta release, so c'est la vie.

Re: Returning to Tales of the Midd...er, Maj'Eyal
Okay, so I created a Shalore Alchemist. Appeared in the Scintillating Caves, checked out Elvala, cleared the Rhaloran Camp...and can't go anywhere else. When I hit the stream at the bottom of the island just below Elvala, I can't keep moving. Trees and sea block me every other way. Anything I'm missing?
Re: Returning to Tales of the Midd...er, Maj'Eyal
You can't visit the continent to the south. You can move diagonally through the trees in the north.
Sorry about all the parentheses (sometimes I like to clarify things).
Re: Returning to Tales of the Midd...er, Maj'Eyal
Thanks. It took me several tries with the point and click, but I finally managed to slip through. Next time, I'll switch to ASCII temporarily.
Re: Returning to Tales of the Midd...er, Maj'Eyal
Do I understand correctly that you are unable to map diagonal movement?

Re: Returning to Tales of the Midd...er, Maj'Eyal
It's in the keybindings menu. Nothing special or tricky about it.

Re: Returning to Tales of the Midd...er, Maj'Eyal
I finally managed to get the game to accept my keybindings for diagonal. I think there's a conflict with my computer itself, where the OS wants certain things assigned to certain key functions regardless of the program running.
So I've been playing long enough to have an opinion. It's quite fun, though the lack (afaict) of any place to farm has made it difficult for me to level up some characters sufficiently to take on stronger bosses (and I've only been doing Easy mode thus far.) Is there some way for me to work around that or is it just that I'm going to have to play and play until I learn all the tricks for operating beyond my apparent means?
A few more questions, if y'all don't mind, and I'll likely keep coming back with more as they occur to me.
1) I'm playing a fairly successful Draconian. I've been trying to puzzle out how Equilibrium works, but the descriptions are a bit confusing and vague and, unlike stamina or hp, it's not entirely clear to me what the numbers and percentages mean in practical terms.
2) Is there, or will there be at some point in the game, a place I can use as storage? I'm an artifact hoarder from way back in the old Angband days and I hate selling them even when they're useless to me. Obviously I can't carry them around indefinitely -- encumbrance becomes an issue, after all.
3) Are gems of any particular utility to someone outside alchemist/magic classes? Are they worth more for personal use or can I probably just safely sell them?
4) Does dual wielding require a special skill set? I've not been able to get the game to accept an off-hand weapon (as opposed to a shield) with any character other than my Halfling rogue, whose skill sets include Dual Wielding abilities but doesn't possess any special skill sheerly devoted to allowing dual wield.
Thanks for any help.

Re: Returning to Tales of the Midd...er, Maj'Eyal
1) Many of your skills will increase your Equilibrium when used. These skills also have a chance of failing when used, dependent on how high your Equilibrium is. You want to keep it as low as possible. For a Wyrmic, your best bet is to Swallow-kill all enemies to keep your Equilibrium down in long fights.
2) Indeed there is. You generally open it some time between levels 10 and 20.
3) Some shops/NPCs can use gems and normal (white) jewelry to make equipment. I find it mostly useless, especially since I never really find the right piece of white equipment. I generally just "sell" gems, though I hold on to them until I unlock the player house, for reasons that are spoily. If you need money for something, definitely sell them. There is another class that can use gems. You can also unlock the Stone Alchemy tree and various talents via an escort task.
4) Dual wielding is always possible, but you need to be careful how you go about it. You can only offhand daggers (generally) and only daggers or one-handed weapons in your main hand. Trying to swap out weapons on the fly is confusing until you learn the rules, so if you aren't in danger, unequip all weapons/shields, then equip the new weapon set.
Edit: Forgot to mention; you really aren't supposed to grind. If you find yourself underleveled, make sure you are going through most if not all of the accessible starter dungeons, not just the ones associated with your race.
