[b34] paralyze effects: gloom_stunned, ...

#1 Post by marvalis »

The following effects are incoherent with the talent description:
They all cause paralyze:

gloom_stunned (description says stunned) => change effect to stun
madness_stunned (says stunned) => change effect to stun
psionic bind (says immobilize) => change effect to pinned?

Don't just change them to stun -- they'll need to be buffed in other ways to compensate. Stun is a sharply weaker effect than paralysis, which means that when you change a talent that was decently-balanced before (eg. one turn of paralysis under highly limited circumstances) to stun, it ends up underpowered and useless. This was a problem with, say, the Chronomancy Stop spell until recently -- in general, inflicting stun and nothing else (with no damage) is too weak to be worth a typical talent unless the duration is very long or the radius is extremely huge.

In general, unless the talent as a whole was underpowered, it will need some other benefit added to it to make up for inflicting a weaker status ailment.

I think gloom and madness could be changed to stun. Its more in line with the power of the slow and confuse effects. Cursed should also be a more powerful now so stun is less critical.
