Boss encounter lore.

#1 Post by Aquillion »

I was thinking about Urkis when I realize that I had no idea what his motivation was. I mean, as far as I can recall, he just put a giant storm over a city purely for the sake of being evil.

That got me thinking -- it'd be neat if, when you're first seen by him, some lore popped up introducing him, describing him, maybe with some dialog as he gives a little speech about his motivation or goals or whatever. Other bosses could have similar descriptions.

Obviously people would have to write this lore, but I'm wondering if anyone thinks it'd be a good idea.

(Possibly the boss encounter lore could also change if you've found all of the zone-specific lore -- since often that hints at or describes the boss already, it could be worded a bit differently to say eg. "This must be the beast that slew the ill-fated young mage who came before you" or whatever.)

The people of Derth are the evil ones; Urkis was just trying to do the world a favor ;)

Fair note, I think there's a couple of uniques that are already like this. Either they get a lore on entering LoS or on death, I forget. May be confusing it with the pop-up lore for eden's guile, though.

Anyway, +1 to the idea. I like it, and it might be good for better preparing someone unfamiliar with a particular boss for what's about to happen.

Heh, that would be amusing...

I've been meaning to write some lore for Urkis for a while, but wanted to tie it in with a mention of the last bosses. Since I've yet to play to the end game I've not been sure what to write yet :P

What if Urkis is specifically trying to lure you out? Say - he heard that you've become the most powerful adventurer in Derth and that you've found a Rod of Recall. Since he knows about its link to the Sher'Tul, he wants to kill you to possess it. The best way to get you to his lair - where he's at his strongest - is to pull at your emotions.

Perhaps he could drop a note indicating something about the ruins in the Old Forest, since that's a reasonable next step for the player anyways.
