How/When to do Graveyard?
Hi,
Just wondering what level you are meant to attempt the Graveyard at. I was given the quest really early with a previous char and died pronto. Fled and then that character got stuck with a bug (missing assassin lord).
So this character I have done everything in the West except Renkor and the Spellblaze, I'm a level 32 Sun Paladin. So I've gone back and attempted the graveyard again. The first grave was a skeleton mage which I handled OK. But the second is a Lev 46 Bone Giant mage who is handing me my my ass on a silver platter, already lost one life. A "run away" teleport into the main room woke up the boss and now all the Graves are open and I'm in some serious trouble. The stairs are gone so there's no running away either.
I've also read in these forums I need to find 4 bits of lore before killing the boss. Found one so far, but no sign of the others. Do the monsters carry 'em around?
So is this something I shouldn't attempt until after I come back from the east? Or am I just unlucky? Or (most likely) am I just a crap player? This is my first Sun Paladin who made it out of the starting zone.

Edit: Died again so think I am going to have to abandon it for the time being. I'm not even denting any of them

Re: How/When to do Graveyard?
Definitely unlucky. I've done the graveyard three or four times so far, always around the point I normally enter either daikara or dreadfell (So between level 17 and 25 or so, I'd say usually around 20.). Haven't had any trouble killing everything so long as I made sure to open all the coffins before trying to take Celia.
Haven't tried it with a sunpa yet, though, and I've never tried building one like you did (You've definitely invested more into inscriptions than I ever do, ferex, and I lean more heavily on the shield talents for damage than the wave of power, etc. Also, I tend to max weapon of light for sunpas pretty early, as it's very powerful.), so no clue how it'd work out in that situation. Still, I'd say it's mostly ill luck. There's actually somewhat of an advantage to taking it earlier than you did, as it keeps the critters from scaling quite as powerfully.

Re: How/When to do Graveyard?
I cleared it with a level 21 Corruptor using Fearscape... however I must say those random class undeads are really nasty.
I'd advise you to go down to Dreadfell and see how well you do facing a pack of Vampires on open ground, that's about the difficulty level you can expect in the graveyard.

Re: How/When to do Graveyard?
Did dreadfell. I left a Radiant Horror from a vault alive, and the boss battle involved several teleports, but no real drama other than that. Sounds like I've actually left it too late. Oh well, haven't made it to the far east in ages so I guess I'll have a crack and Renkor instead and hopefully make it back alive later.
Now that I've openned it they're all fixed right? Not going to scale any more?
I was playing around a bit with Sun Paladins. I like wave of power for some decent ranged damage. Especially when I had my slimy war-axe, unfortunately it was only steel so I eventually retired it. Given my time again I wouldn't get Crusade, a bit pissweak compared to the shield talents, love assault. I always put my first two category points into runes/infusions. I have enough trouble working out where to put my points without openning new ones up. And with this char there is so much good stuff for generic points, but never enough points.

Re: How/When to do Graveyard?
I didn't realize the undead that spawned had random class levels so didn't open a single coffin.
My character's two regen infusions and shielding rune eventually ran out of juice and that was that. I certainly suggest opening the coffins and in retrospect I should have precogged them all in an attempt to avoid the curse.

Re: How/When to do Graveyard?
The Graveyard strikes me as very optional. You need it for the unlock, and for the Lich quest, but otherwise its either going to be a very difficult or very risky encounter (I don't think the Fateful Aura tree is currently worth investing in for non-Afflicted classes).
Sorry about all the parentheses (sometimes I like to clarify things).
Re: How/When to do Graveyard?
I just tried with a lvl 18 rogue.
It was a bad game and I just went there to gain experience (RL).
First coffin a Vampire lvl 30.
A few hits and I had to run away with movement infusion.
Came back and got him.
Second coffin Elder Vampire and this guy summoned a few skeletons and I had to run.
Came back and fought them but this time I was badly hit and hat to try a teleport, which took me into the big room....
Nothing I really did not expect.

Re: How/When to do Graveyard?
Went there as a level 34 Mindslayers. I managed to kill Celia, though in the process I lost a life. Then some other uniques got me...Farscape proved pretty deadly in particular, not one but two NPCs had it and well, in the end I died.
Really I think it's the undead uniques that are the real problem here, not Celia herself(who wasn't easy, but I sorta knew what to expect as I've played Necros a bit).
Edit: I sorta hoped to keep this char for the East, so I did *NOT* open each coffin individually...although that might have made things way easier and let me prepared better for the Fearscape.

Re: How/When to do Graveyard?
Actually this reminds me of something I read in one of the very early betas. Do the zones scale with the level of your character when you first enter the zone? If so, would a dodgey tactic for some of the more dificult zones be to enter the zone, and then leave again. Then come back later when you're more powerful.Frumple wrote:There's actually somewhat of an advantage to taking it earlier than you did, as it keeps the critters from scaling quite as powerfully.
Re: How/When to do Graveyard?
At the cost of the <= 6 (according to DG) floor items that you might lose. And you would have to have somewhere else to go to level up.budswell wrote:would a dodgey tactic for some of the more dificult zones be to enter the zone, and then leave again. Then come back later when you're more powerful.
Re: How/When to do Graveyard?
go in at level 1, come back later

Re: How/When to do Graveyard?
There's a minimum and maximum level for each zone which is usually fairly narrow, so this tactic won't make much difference.

Re: How/When to do Graveyard?
I guess it's mostly the low level ones that are more restricted. And blimey, the Last Hope Graveyard is the worst of all at 15-35...
Re: How/When to do Graveyard?
How do the vampires scale with your level? What is their level when you do it with level 15 and 35?
