[b31] Disruption Shield deactivation still completely broken

The deactivation of a Disruption Shield can easily instakill the toughest characters, as well it can be exploited (along with potion of invulnerability or extra lives) to kill any amount of enemies in a large area. In the Orc Prides, I had two stair guards explode for about 3000 and 3600 damage each, instantly killing my full health character once, and avoiding it through the luck of being at range the other time. Explosions that powerful just are extremely unbalancing, and I repeat my suggestion of making Disruption Shield deactivate at something like ( 0.25 * damage absorbed) mana instead of 0, or else have a different limit on the damage that it can explode for.

Disruption shield's pretty deadly, yeah. After it killed me once, I started toting around ruination staves (At least one, usually 2-3) and actually looking at randomized elite/bosses's sustains. It hasn't killed me twice :P

Several classes have ways of getting around the kaboom, as well. Unstoppable, bone shield, etc. S'a very dangerous talent, but also a very preventable one. Not sure whether, how, or if, the talent actually needs tweaking. It might be nice if the visual effect of it was a bit more noticeable, though, so you don't have to keep a constant eye on the enemy tooltip.

Might be kinda' awesome if a little combat log message popped up the first time you see something with it active. "Nuclear lau... ah... Disruption Shield detected!" :wink:

The one that killed me was an invisible enemy (that I knew the location of) that I beat on for a few turns, then it exploded for 3600 damage. I was a mindslayer, so no foresight, unstoppable, or Bone Shield for me (although I may have survived by activating Damage Smearing). It should really be nerfed to prevent instakilling the last bosses by sacrificing a life/potion of invulnerability/avoiding it and charging it to 40 000 or so damage, as well as NPC use.

It's only completely broken if you don't know what Disruption Shield is or what to expect from it. I encountered a high level farportal boss with Disruption Shield with one of my test characters a little while back. I was playing conservative--slow and careful--yet I wasn't paying attention as to why I wasn't damaging it when all of a sudden BAM: dead. Suspecting a broken talent, I looked at the stdout log, then reloaded to try to fight it again. I wasn't conservative this time: I attacked as fiercely and quickly as I could. The disruption Shield still exploded, but it only did maybe 50% of my life. Much better!

The moral of the story is... I dunno. It's a dangerous talent for pcs and npcs alike. I think my preferred solution to make it a bit less scary when npcs have it is to make the AI a little smarter. In other words, if a Disruption Shield explosion will kill the npc that's using it, then that npc should try to stay alive by deactivating the talent.
